    I dont have dvd burner,only a cd burner and hence i am going to make some of my first VCDs over the next few days.I just have a few questions that I hope some of you guys can answer.What format should i convert my video files to,to burn onto a cd and could you recommend a good programme that I should use to convert the files?How many minutes of high quality video clips should I get onto each VCD and finally what programme should I use to burn them?
    any help is appreciated

    From here. Detailed instructions on how to burn a VCD. Im sure theres a more updated version of Nero but either way I dont think you have to convert anything, not 100% sure though.
    You can fit 740 MB MPEG on a 74 min CD and 800 MB MPEG on a 80 min CD on a VCD!

    If your going to be using Nero it is a lot more straight forward now in v7.

    Start Nero Vision select make CD and then select the type of video CD* you want. After that in the next few menus it will ask for the files you want to add etc. and then it will do the job converting & burning.

    VCD = MPEG-1
    SVCD = MPEG-2

    I downloaded nero v7 and everything worked fine until i hit the "burn vcd" and then it said that it would take approx 7 hours to burn.Surely this is not how long it takes to burn a vcd....I even waited 20mins to see if the time would reduce significantly but it didnt..any suggestions as to how I can reduce the time significantly.
    O and by the way,i used the max speed which is approx 52x on the burner that im using

    The 7 hours bit is how long it's going to take to encode. The actual burn will only take a few minutes. 7 hours is high, but not beyond the realms of possibility. How fast is your computer?

    jaysus, 7 hours!!!

    get tmpegenc.
    should take about 45 mins to encode a vcd. [estimate on amd 2200 w/ 512ram]
    then burn with nero.

    i downloaded it and it said that it is not compatible with windows xp.Do you know of any other encoders that would work with xp and would take a minimum amount of time to encode?
