Connect OS 9.2.2 to 10.4 for file sharing?

Anyone know how to do this? I'm having a lot of problems. I'm getting an error on OS X about incompatible AFP versions... which I just found out is all part of the plan, as Apple changed the AppleTalk settings with 10.4, and Tiger can no longer connect to older machines via AFP.

However, all the sites seem to suggest it is still possible to connect from 9.2.2 to 10.4 (rather than 10.4 to 9.2.2) but I can't do it.

Has anyone successfully done this yet?

To connect from 9.2.2 to 10.4 you can select ""Enable File Sharing clients to connect over TCP/IP" in the OS 9 File sharing control panel and once you have a vaild IP address on both machines you can connect via IP from 9 to 10.4.

Otherwise what is happening when you try to connect from OS X to OS 9? Have you got OS X configured to share - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106461

Hey, thanks Globe. I had that checked but it still wouldn't connect. I was trying everything suggested in the Apple discussion articles but no joy.

I got to the point where both machines recognised each other but just wouldn't connect. On my iMac running OS 9.2.2, I would see my MacBook appearing the chooser. When I clicked 'connect', it would run through a 30 second verification process before popping up with a login box. Now, I read somewhere in an Apple article that I should use my OS X short name and password to connect at this point. This didn't work for me. Even trying to connect as a 'Guest' didn't work. I would always get some error along the lines of "...not able to connect at this time. Please try again later."

Very frustrating when you don't get a specific error. You never know where you're going wrong... :(

Anyway, thanks for the link, I'll read it through and see if anything sticks out :)

Go to OS 9 control panel and note the tcp/ip address.

Now go over to your osx interface and from the desktop toolbar select Go | Connect to server and type in this suffix "afp://" and then your IP address from the mac running os9.

Make sure file sharing and apple talk are running on both machines.
On OSX machine go into the system preference and access the network section. Make sure all Services are switched off apart from Personal File Sharing.

    All should work out fine.
