    Hi folks,

I am trying to copy some files onto a DVD (as opposed to CD) - these include mpegs, mp3, jpegs etc. When I drag and drop I keep getting errors with each file. Do I have to burn them on? Can XP do this or do I need special software?

    Cheers

You need DVD burning software. XP's built-in functionality is for CDs only.

If the computer came with the drive built-in : you most likely have software with it. (Google or read the manual)
Or did you buy the drive seperately? (Still usually comes supplied with a version of burning software...)

Hopefully your DVD drive came with a copy of Nero, if not you can download a trial version of it here. Make sure you uncheck the box to download the Yahoo! toolbar. I hate the way these rat bastard software developers bundle their stuff with crap.

Cheers guys - yes it does have a built in drive but not Nero - all i seem to have is Roxio Easy CD creator, which it seems only works on CD's and not DVDs (obvious from the name). It also has Cyberlink Power DVD which only plays DVD's. I do have some extra software but I dont think any of them does the trick, DVD Cloner, DVDSanta. I might try the trial of Nero

Roxio should do DVD also, if it came bundled on a PC with a DVD burner.
You sure it's a DVD burner and not just a DVD reader/CD burner?

yep it has 2 drives one cd and one dvd - I have burned dvds before but dont seem to have any software to burn that mix of files. I do agree tho that if it has a dvd burner drive it should have some bloody software. Roxio appears only to do CD's or audio tracks. Actually just had a look and there is software installed called Sonic - I think this may do it but is seems a pain in the back side to use it

Ah sure you might as well get Nero. And at a tenner for a licence that'll do everything you need, you might as well actually buy it.
