hey i got a new computer to set up and when i booted XP it went fine until it told me to restart the computer, i restarted, the CD booted again and it went through to the start of XP setup again where i could only do a fresh install or a repair, fresh install makes 2 OS's on the drive and theres nothing to be repaired.. what have i done wrong? hope ye can reply quickly i think i might have make a mistake when i booted up and it asked me to press any key if i wanted to boot from cd, i have a feeling i should have left it going, am i right? if that is the case how do i get out of setup coz i tried to quit but it said that i cant quit without having to do a fresh install.... help pleeeease:eek:

    thanks
    sven

I guess you didn't read the part of the setup where it says "remove the CD from the tray before restarting" ;)

Either way, yes, you shouldn't have booted from CD the second time.

Turn off the pc, boot it up, let it skip the "boot from CD" part. Problem solved.

I think he means he is waiting for your edit where you will put the solution.

Steoob what exactly appears on your screen when you turn on the puter? How far did you go? Is it the blue screen or the more windows looking screen where it takes about 40 mins detecting hardware etc? Have you just done this now and are posting from another PC and have NOT actually simply turned off your PC?

Do you get the part where it asks you to .....

You know what? forget it.. you only just started this whole thing.. do a fresh install and format! Start from scratch and remove the CD and take it as a learning experience :D
