    Folks,

Have any of you tried this service yet? http://www.jajah.com Looks like a good deal. There is a free trial for 5 minutes. ( Saw that in Irish times today )

But it seems to default my country to UK for some reason. I am on NTL Broadband. The FAQ section says that it will default to the country based on my ip. As far as I know I am on dynamic ip. Does NTL provide an UK ip to irish customers by any chance ? Or is it just a bug in the site ?

    Cheers

NTL route through the UK so you'll appear to websites as connecting from UK...its annoying when websites limit access by IP's!

Had a quick look over the site, seems far too good to be true, I don't see how they have a working business model as I don't see how their making money of it, calling mobiles and landlines worldwide isn't free...even at normal VoIP rates.

I mentioned Jajah on the VoIP forum when it launched, probably six months ago. It's a clever enough idea. They basically set up a VoIP call between two phone numbers and charge you VoIP rates. So you don't need the hassle of VoIP to get the benefit of VoIP. With the likes of Telestunt around, it's debatable what the benefit is really. I think it would mainly be good for international calls from a mobile but even then the savings would be marginal over Telestunt (depending on the operator).

They've obviously added free landline calls between registered numbers. I suppose it's a bit like the free calls with voipfree.com etc. Landline calls presumably cost sod all with VoIP so they're loss-leading on them, hoping you will make other calls where they make money.

    No line rental.

The vast majority of Irish broadband users will be using DSL for the foreseeable future - NTL just doesn't have significant national coverage, and wireless and VoIP are not exactly a match made in heaven.

Regardless it's an irrelevant point because Jajah requires a phone number at each end and if you have VoIP already, then you wouldn't use Jajah. So it's targetted at landline and mobile users.

i tried this service recently but could not connect call to us ... somehow the coverage may be well bad for some us phone providers ... also noticed that somebody could register your phone number and you would not be able to register for the service even if it does work fine ... is it really something that would make skype consider its features ?
