By posting on this board, you are agreeing to all of the following:

    Posting Guidelines:

Please ask yourself the following before posting:
    • Will this be interesting for other people to read, or will it just make it harder to find the stuff that is interesting for people to read?
    • I disagree with a post, is my post attacking the poster or the post?
    • Am I repeating an argument that someone else (or even I) has already made?
    • Am I getting involved with a tit for tat argument that really isn't going anywhere?
    • Will everyone who reads this board understand what I'm saying? Will it be funny to someone who doesn’t know anyone here outside the context of this board (i.e. real life(tm))
    • And the obvious, is this against the charter rules (see below).

    ##############################################################

There will naturally be overflow between here and college work forum. If it's a blatant work issue it'd be better in there as it should get more foot fall. That said if there's anything UCD specific about it then this is the best place.

    See below for Resources:

    also standard rules:

    Advertising
    - Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. If you wish to buy add space, contact advert[AT]boards.ie .

    Flaming
    - Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted.

    Racism
    - Topics/posts containing such will be edited / deleted accordingly.

    Porn
    - Topics/posts containing such will be deleted on sight.

    Off Topic
    - Posts that stray off topic will be edited/deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand. Topics that are not UCD related will be moved / deleted.

    Caps Lock
    - Any post that is in all upper case will be deleted, because it does my head in.

If you continuously break these rules, it will result in a ban from the board.

If you see anything that breaks these rules that I have yet to act on I'd appreciate if you used the "Report a Post" feature. It makes my job easier.

If you are banned on a temporary basis it is YOUR responsibility to inform the mod who banned you of when your ban has expired - and be civil :).

If you have any complaints about a moderating decision contact me(Truckle) privately or hullaballoo or post on the Admin board. Any post complaining about me on this board will be locked.

For general queries or reports please contact myself (truckle) or hullaballoo.

    • No discussion of 'hacking' in the sense of bypassing firewalls or servers is to be allowed.
    • Statements of fact about the network's structure or capabilities is allowed.
    • Interesting facts (e.g., that UCD Connect runs on a Sun server) will be allowed.
    • Condemnations of services/equipment such as Blackboard on the basis of cost or technological inferiority are ok too. Condemnations of such services on ill-founded or inaccurate bases are not ok.
    • 'Unsupported'/'Undocumented' network features such as IMAP access to connect are OK, except where they contravene the first rule.
    • Discussion of the usage of Limewire/Kazaa or other illegal use of P2P software shall be prohibited. (Remember here that any use of such software is banned under the UCD Acceptable Use Policy.)
    • Do not even mention the word torrents.
    • Attempting to either break into or otherwise hassle another person's computer account are banned.
    • This amendment does not have an effect on the standards set down in the forum charter. This means that any breach of the charter will not be justified by reference to this amendment.

Ok, short of setting up a UCDSU sub-forum for UCD, I think we shoud contain UCD spam as much as we can in the UCD forum.

For this reason, there is a UCDSU Nominations thread. That will be the only thread in which UCD SU nominations can be discussed.

    That is all.

    Thanks,
    hullaballoo.

Do not mention by name any staff member of UCD, nor allude to their identity (Saying "The 2nd year Electroactive Terrain lecturer" is just as bad as saying "Dr. Robert Paulson", for instance).

These people are A) not here to defend any allegations you might make against them (founded or otherwise) and B) capable of taking action against boards.ie, which is bad. So don't do it.

Should you have a problem with a particular lecturer, then contact your school. Should you wish to praise a particular lecturer, then drop them an email, they'll probably appreciate it. Should you wish to refer to something they did where it's relevant to another topic then simply say "a lecturer"

Posting in languages other than english is perfectly allowed in the UCD forum, however if you make a post which contains any signifigant amount of another language, be it Gaeilge Nihongo or Ig-pay Atin-lay, must contain a translation into English.

While we do apologise for any inconvenience incurred, if we can't read it, we don't know what's in there, and therefore we don't know if it breaches the rules laid out above.

To conclude - If it's not in english, translate it to english and write the translation underneath or it will be removed.

Buying and selling of tickets is not allowed on boards. This includes, but is not limited to:

Posting a thread saying that you have x tickets for y event, that you're selling for €z,
Asking if anyone has spare tickets for events they'd be willing to give you,
PMing someone who was asking questions about tickets or events to sell them your spares ones,
    etc.

While we're on the topic, buying and selling other things is also frowned upon, however boards has a sub site, www.adverts.ie, which exists for the purpose of buying and selling.

So, there have been a number of complaints recently over the "lol arts" style jokes that are floating around the forum. While I understand that these have been a part of UCD life for donkeys years, and are meant in good fun, it is becoming evident that they are not being taken as they are meant.

So, as of now, posts which serve no other purpose but putting down arts (or any other course) as a worthless degree, will be deleted and the poster treated in the same manner as someone who breaks any other rule. Posts which contain throwaway remarks to the same effect will have such remarks removed.
