Got offered a job as a claims handler today. Just wondering what anyone who has worked in that position before thinks of it?

Is it tough going? I've heard it can be stressful.

If nothing else you'll have people ringing up wondering when they'll get their money/new carpet/tiles on the roof etc etc.

    It's basically a CS role isn't it??

How are you with dealing with people?
When I say people I mean whining head wreckers.

Nope, someone else takes the calls etc., screens them and then connects them through so you don't have to deal with the whingers.

Not a claim handler but I work in insurance. There's a saying in claim handling "leave your emotions at the door when you come in in the morning". You don't say exactly what claims you're dealing with, but if it's personal injury you'll have to learn to be ruthless and not care about the poor sod with 7 dependents whose been paralysed who you're trying to give as little money to as possible. (extreme example, this is a senior claim handler case, but just using it to get the point across)
