I thought this would happen... em k I get a vido mpg. or wmv etc... go to play it in windows media play and everything just freezes... Its not codecs cause I downloaded the divx one awhile ago and it seemed to do the job

I had uninstalled it to see if that would work but it didnt !

    Need more ?

Uninstall media player, install media player 11, see if that sorts it.

Give us a few system details please. What OS are you running? Try downloading K-Lite Codec Pack for a start.

Something is wrong with your pc man, how long since you formatted the thing? I reckong you should do a fresh install, you need sp2 in this day and age :D.

Download what I mentioned above and if that still doesnt work, get GSpot. It will help you identify what codec is used in the media you are trying to play and whether or not it is installed on your computer. You really should get SP2 and keep your machine updated.

Sounds very much like a problem I and many people have had with our 6600GTs... you should go into your GeForce properties and have a look under the main page with the driver versions on it... in there, have a look for what it lists under "Bus:" ... mine is supposed to be running under "AGP 8X" ... but when I have the problem you have it's listed as PCI or something.
The fix was basically to install the graphics card drivers and then install the motherboard chipset drivers... which changed the "Bus" listing and cleared the whole video problem right up.

If you have the motherboard drivers you can format. You do have the XP disk right?

I have the mobo driver cd... but I don't have the XP cd, I have this other cd (for my actual pc) that I had used to reformat every 6 months !

As mentioned above, check that your AGP GART miniport driver is installed (if its an AGP card). This is provided by the motherboard's chipset manufacturer. If its PCI Express you shouldn't need to to anything (but then its a problem I'm not aware of).
