How old are you if under 21 I would just leave them alone most people get them growing up are you female or male,if you start picking at them you could end up leaving scars on your face,I know sanua's and steam rooms are good for the skin

As oulu said, don't pick them. I have some scars on my temples and chin/lower cheeks because of doing this, and now there's only the odd spot there. I used to have really bad acne; it's mostly gone now and I'm still only 18.

I read in one those womens mags that whiteheads are caused by a buildup of dead skin and bacteria, so you should try an exfoliating scrub. St Ives do a good range

Go for a facial - they really work. My preferred facials are Dermalogica and Nimue.

loads of things can help you OP, like another poster said, a gentle exfoliating wash will cleanse your face and get rid of dead skin cells. If you have very oily skin, try to get one that contains alcohol as that dires out the skin, though may irritate it if it's very sensitive. You could try filling a basin with boiling water and adding 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to it then letting the steam rise up to your face, this will make any grime and grease come to the surface and you can then wash it away with your exfoliator.

There are some special creams you can get which you put directly on the whitehead to dry them out, these are good, but often contain alcohol so if your skin is very sensitive I wouldn't recommend using these.

If your skin is very oily and not too sensitive I'd recomment Clearasil or Clean and Clear, for slightly more sensitive Skin I'd go with Neutragena, and for sensitive skin the Boots range with Tea Tree and Witch Hazel is very good.

    Hope this helps :)

My:eek: fubbin god, man you have no idea as to what your talking about.
Firstly Clearasil is a no no..... full stop I know so many of my peers throughout the years it never worked even if it helped, it's almost always short term. Clearasil is a harsh soap. There is no calming properties in that product everything in it just strips away the skin at the surface.

Tea tree oil is not always good as it can redden the skin and irrirate it more. I have got this advice from Doctors and herbalists. There are other herbs that are more suited for acne. Agnus cactus regulated and balances hormones which help skin greatly. Another is Calundala which has healing properities whihc tea tree dosn't have etc.

Alcohol is not good for the skin and is not good for oily skin, in FACT it only aggravates more oil production. Stripping away more skin revealing more senseitive skin, and therefore more sebum is produced. Most products nowdays that are designed for oily skin has little or no alcohol in it. This is because alcohol creates an imbalance in the skin. Mate it annoys me when people bull**** about something, It's not good to be giving advice on a medical issue when your not fully familar on what product suits what etc.

Also you mentioned about the steaming process you forgot to mention that you have to close the pores with a dash over extra cold water. Even though it's a small but important part of steaming your skin.;)

This is coming from someone(me) who had acne for 7 years! Met a dermatogolist the fubbing lot.

Clearasil:rolleyes: oh my fubbing god it so common.

Yes, it can irritate the skin if the oil is actually applied undiluted. It should be diluted with a base oil first, this can be got in the health store where you buy the tea tree oil. Also, tea tree oil can be bought in a cream form which can be used straightaway on zits. It should be used sparingly though, as it can cause irritation

i use clearasil routinely, and i never get spots. I seem to have esacped the acne nightmare altogether and Im putting it down to this. Also it doesnt do me any harm tbh

First of all, I have found clearasil to be very effective, although a little harsh it all really does depend on your skin type. Second of all, no essential oil should be applied directly to the skin, and I never suggested that they should, Boots' products contain Tea Tree oil, and using those products is good as you are not getting a concentrated amount of Tea Tree Oil, ditto the facial-steaming, the tea tree oil would evaporate with the water and so it wouldn't be as harsh as the pure oil.

All products will only help in the short term, at least until the skin has stopped over-producing oils and has balanced out, any products will have to be used regularly for a long period of time to get permanent results.

Most places in Dublin do them. Can't think of any offhand but I usually go in Swords. Usually costs €50.

Yup. I started using that a couple months ago and its worked very well. Its extremely strong though, you need to apply a really thin layer.

does it get rid of the whiteheads or what?

Are you a guy or a girl???

If you're a girl it could be down to the type of foundation you use, if it's oil based it's seriously crap for clogging up skin and developing whiteheads.

Try the Normaderm range from Vichy. A bit pricier than your standard cleanser/exfoliator/moisturiser but its the first I've found that actually reduces the amount of oil produced by the skin, it minises pores, reduces spots and its really good for sensitive skin!

Ugh, stupid expensive creams and facials. Seriously, don't be taken in by that overpriced commercial bullshít.

Get Benozol Peroxide 5% gel/cream(available at any pharmacy) and a moisturiser. Moisturise in the morning and put the gel on at night. Apply a good bit of the gel/cream(DON'T SKIMP) and slowly and gently work it into the areas affected. That should clear up minor acne(It'll take 3 weeks or so to be noticable though, be patient!).

go to www.acne.org and follow the regimen there.....it worked for me, go to your chemist and buy a 2.5% benzoyl peroxide(BP) cream and a good moisturiser. wash your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser and then put LOTS of the BP on the areas you have spots, wait for it to TOTALLY dry and then put on LOTS of moisturiser on the area.

im telling you it absolutely blasts mild-moderate acne, seriously try it before you try any of the other solutions mentioned here (no offence to anyone!)...what have you got to lose?

post back here if (when) it works for you.

Well, all I'm going by is that it works on me, unlike many other things. Ask the chemist for testers first so that you can see if it works over a week or two without forking out cash.
