Two Cards, 1 Digibox..

    Hey All,

I have a slight problem i've been suffering for a while in that i have a digibox and minidish set to usual Astra with a single Lnb.. got myself a freesat card and all was good.. but then a while back i decided to subscribe to NASN and after much wrangling they refused to add the channel to my existing card since i couldnt provide the address of the originall register of the card (got it off eBay).

Anyhow moving along i swapped the cards when required but i'm worried this is both wearing out the contacts in the Digibox and my patience. I understand i need another box but i'd prefer to avoid another dish! A dual or higher Lnb is also an option but that also requires drilling more holes to bring another cable in.. bottom line does anyone know of a way or running two boxes from one feed? Thanks in advance for any suggestions etc..
    Richie.

dual or quad LNB is the only way to do it, get another digibox on ebay, you could have sky sub on one and freesat on the other

Or you could try getting an FTV card through a relative or friend in the UK. That way, you'd have full postal details of the card.

You could sell your existing FTV card to recoup costs! Won't be hard to sell. Of course, another drawback would be cancelling NASN you currently have, and resubbing on the newer FTV card. Could end up being a pain.

    Still, it's an alternative!

Thanks for the responses.. i think i'll have to go with the second digibox and new Lnb because when i originally signed up with NASN it took a lot of expensive phone calls to England to get it set up with their card so I don't fancy getting them to switch to a new card.. Thanks anyhow.

Do you intend having both digiboxes beside each other? If so you'll have problems with the remote control, as the remote will change both boxes simultaneously. All digiboxes use the same remote, regardless of the make.

Can you subscribe seperately to box office films, Man Utd TV and NASN on a FTV card by paying the one off fee. Or do have to have the Sky basic package for these add on channels?

There is a way to make it work though.

I have two boxes on top of each other in the sitting room, one is subbed the other has an FTV card.

Ok this probably wont make a lot of sense, but here goes.

The subbed box is connected to the TV via scart and the FTV one is connected from RF2 tuned into station 1 on the TV.

The remote does control both boxes at the same time, but scart control is only on the subbed box. So when I want to watch the FTV box I simply press 104 (the subbed box switches to TG4 and the FTV switches to Channel 4) then I press ‘TV’ and ‘1’ and the TV switches over to the RF2 feed to show me Channel 4.

If you cover the front of the remote (so as to avoid scart switching) and press ‘SKY’ the remote reverts back to controlling the Sky boxes so you can change station on the FTV box while the TV is still showing the RF2 feed.

Only drawback is that the audio feed from the FTV box is Mono.

If a TV has 2 scart connections the same job could be achieved switching between the scart 1 and scart 2 with the TV remote – this will allow for stereo sound. I find the mono is fine for the likes of C4/C5 so I don’t bother with having a second remote cluttering up the coffee table.

Thanks for the tips guys.. i hadn't given too much thought to how i'd avoid controlling both boxes simultaneously.. probably some kinda screen in front of the box i dont want to affect but i suppose thats almost as awkward as switching cards! It's a pity you can't kinda lock a remote to a particular box even temporarily.. i think i've two scart connections so i'll probably use the tv remote to select which box is displayed and just leave the two boxes respond to the one remote.. less than ideal but as good as can be down when you're as lazy as me! Thanks again guys!

I know this is slightly off topic but will my NASN Sub card have to remain in the original box or can it be moved.. i.e. does it work like a SKY sub card in that it's now married to the first box it was used in? Not a big deal but it avoid me wondering why the new box isn't working with it in....Thanks.

Only premium channels are married to box. Don't know if NASN is "premium" in that sense. Probabily.

However a phone call with the details of your "new" box + card and they will change it over. Boxews break or be away for repair (hence changing back is possible too).

They might get a bit testy if you rigthem every friday and Modnay though!
