Dunphy is to get a once- weekly slot on RTE radio from september. No suprise to me really. He'll be missed on Newstalk though. Maybe RTE will eventually give him a daily spot yet ??

    Beat me too it :P

    from rte.ie
RTÉ Radio 1 has announced that Eamon Dunphy is to join the station this autumn.

Mr Dunphy - a radio and television presenter, author and sports pundit - will present a new weekly programme as part of the new RTÉ Radio 1 autumn schedule.

The Head of RTÉ Radio 1, Ana Leddy, said she was delighted at the development.

'His unique style will bring a new element to our schedule and to RTÉ Radio 1's overall exciting line-up for the autumn,' Ms Leddy said.

a weekly tribute to (the life and times of) roy keane and fabio cannavaro intertwined with some eclectic music such as the stone roses and pulp!

More likely to be a 60 min rant against the Premiership

Anyone taking bets on how long he'll last at RTE Radio1 before throwing another hissy fit and how "tired and emotional" he feels (from getting hammered out of his tree at some well known Dublin night spot) then promptly walking out without notice before being picked up by another radio station and continuing the vicious cycle.

I wonder how much RTE are paying for his "services" cause this time it aint Denis O Briens deep pockets forking out but the much maligned licence payer! DOH!

Agree vastly overrated as a presenter, with his predjudical barstool views. Alright for people who can't make up their own minds or the "follow the crowd mentality". Don't mention the Italia spat, he has been living off that for 16 years

i think he's great on radio. half it is down to the number of great guests that he has on his show and also its down to dunphy being an excellent presenter who is able to get to the crux of whatever issue he is talking about with guests. sometimes he goes too far in sucking up to his guests (such as that american paris correspondent lara marlow) but overall i think he well worth listening to.

He is a good presenter but he is over rated.

One show a week won't metter much to radio 1 - It is still filled with stuff like Joe Duffy, Kenny etc.

Would have thought the licence payer has deeper pockets than O'Brien...at least its O'Briens own money!!!!

Flutterinbantam, could you please not "shout". Maybe you could use the bold tags ([.b]text[/.b] (just remove the dots)) instead, to emphasise text rather than increasing the font size. Thank you.

Take a "P" there flutter :D I'm sure DoB makes more money in 1 year than RTE do from monies generated from the annual licence fee.

Dunphys got a lot better than he was,his world cup analysis was usually spot on and hes not as angry anymore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 602 ✭✭✭mickd

Thats true to about the anger thing. With regard to his football analysis he perdicted that both Barcalona and Arsenal would fall at the the first hurdle in the champions league and he advised everybody to "draw a line through France and Italy" in the world cup. When he avoids the sycophantic musings about Keane and Giles he is tolerable in his football analysis. He dismisses players whout any factual analysis for example "Barcalona have a weak defense seen them in the La Liga last week" without explaining where the weaknesses are. His forte is the philospohical side of sport but as a reader of the game his is quite poor. However Giles, Houghton and Brady are far more insightful in their analysis.

I generally like Dunphy, but agree with the poster that he sucks up to the contributors too much. I think he's too much in awe of some of them, in particular Robert Fisk - who I happen to like - but Dunphy just eggs him on instead of challenging some of his assertations for the sake of balance and debate. I thought Dunphy was great until Matt Cooper replaced him, Cooper is fantastic.
