Fifa's World Cup squad of the tournament

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Jens Lehmann (Germany), Ricardo (Portugal)

Defenders: Roberto Ayala (Argentina), John Terry (England), Lilian Thuram (France), Philipp Lahm (Germany), Fabio Cannavaro (Italy), Gianluca Zambrotta (Italy), Ricardo Carvalho (Portugal)

Midfielders: Ze Roberto (Brazil), Patrick Vieira (France), Zinedine Zidane (France), Michael Ballack (Germany), Andrea Pirlo (Italy), Gennaro Gattuso (Italy), Luis Figo (Portugal), Maniche (Portugal)

Strikers: Hernan Crespo (Argentina), Thierry Henry (France), Miroslav Klose (Germany), Francesco Totti (Italy), Luca Toni (Italy)

Luca Toni & Totti in attack!
Not one single African or Asian/Ocenia Player either in the 23 man squad. Johny Terry been of course the only English player

Wow....7 from Italy while only 4 from France.

Is that the WC decided then? :)

Ferdinand or Matterazzi in for Terry. And Rodriguez in for Figo, imo.

    Otherwise, decent squad.

Thought Kaka was better than Ze Roberto for Brazil, but that's just my thoughts, wasn't impressed much by Brazil at all really.

Sagnol's been the least appreciated player in the tournament for me, but competition is tough at Right Back.

The general level of forwards in this WC has been atrocious; it seems ridiculous to put Henry and Toni in there (and it is simply insane to pick Totti), but damn hard to find more worthy attackers.

Wanchope has had a better world cup than Toni!
Essien is probably also worth a shout in midfield. Played very well in the 3 group matches.

Take out Toni(poor in the groups, and few goals), Figo(has had one decent game), Ze Roberto(okish), Terry(lol, Sweden goal)

Replace them with ???, Maxi Rodriguez, Kaka/Essien, Sangol

if vieria and zidane are getting picks..seeing as they've only come good in the knockout stages, why isnt makelele on the squad too. Hes been just as important to them getting there as the other two.

Otherwise..not too bad a squad. could easily make a few changes here and there tho. Terry picked just to keep the English FA and public happy ?

No Spanish players! What about Fernando Torres?
And Essien was the best midfielder at the tournament. He would have made a huge difference in the Brazil game, but the ridiculous suspension rules didn't allow him that opportunity.

I agree, apart from Figo. I think he deserves to be there. As for Terry and Toni, no chance. Kaka was Brazils best performer in this WC, Essien was outstanding, Osorio for Mexico had a brilliant tournament. But it is FIFA we're dealin with

I though rodrigues was a revelation in this championship shame that all the big names just get automatically in, Toni is a joke considering how poor he has been.

Can't believe Terry, Totti and Viera are in there, and to a lesser extent Toni.

Where are Torres, Rodriguez, Marquez, Essien, Hargreaves even?

    Dwight Yorke even

Apart from the semis and the first game, Vieira has been v good. As good as the mentioned Hargreaves.

This must be the worst ever WC for strikers. Totti, Toni and Henry have not been great but there aren't many players to replace them with. Torres probably but he only played about 3 games.
