Drive Not Recognise

My laptop has a cd rw drive yet each time i put in a blank cd-rw it wont recognise it or tells me the cd is full even though it is blank. Any suggestions, its a sony vaio if it helps.

Will it read other types of media? Try a regular CDR and see theres any change.
