    Hi there

Need some advice on buying a camera, I was a bit divided between other models (350D or the 20D) but decided to go with the 30D and a travel lens and hopefully build on the lens. Prefer new, I have looked at a good few options still working on the memory either 2x1GB or 2GB card.

    Options 30D 17-85 efs

    Price travel shipping Total
    Komplett.ie 1749 12 1761 Euro
    Jessops belfast 1644 0 1644 Euro
    Jessops dublin 1867 30 1897 Euro
    B and H 1511 330 1841 Euro
    Ac-foto 1646 50 1696 Euro

Jessops in belfast looks like a front runner, free delivery to cork and 1year warranty. What do people think?

30d is a lovely camera. Most people would go for a20d as there is little difference but each to their own.

Great Camera and a Great lense, I bought off AC-Foto, but the Belfast price looks sweet, so its a no brainer. Nice buy.

I have a 20d but I think the 30d has a larger lcd - not too sure of other differences, maybe spot metering & an increase in fps ?

By the looks of that jessops belfast seems sensible to me.

Can you adjust the colour temperature on the 30d??

Differences between the 20D and 30D.

Seems to be: 1) Spot metering 2) Buffer size 3) LCD size. So, Morlar has it :)

it just hate taking out and putting in cards incase i damage the slot, and it is great to have the extra memory on one card.

Compact Flash prices dropped significantly there a few weeks ago, so go for 2x2GB

Nice one. I remember my first 1Gb was €110, the second €76, and the third €56!

If your shooting raw files a 1gb card will fill up rather quickly......

I just got a 4gb 120x card form here for €122 del. included.

excelent eas, thanks for that, great site, 4gb looks great.

No real difference between 20d and 30d just a minor upgrade to 20d, going to check out the camera's on the high street on the weekend and then go for it next week.

    Have a look at www.technikdirekt.de. 30D with 17-85 lens €1611 incl.postage.

I've purchased several items from them (incl. my 20D). Top class.

I'd second that I got my 350D from them too. just a note that sometimes the manuals etc may not be in english

Quite right, the manual will be in German. However, you can download an English
    manual from http://www.canon-asia.com/

I printed off the large 20D manual in A4 format and got it bound in Prontoprint in Cork for €5. Much better than the much smaller manual that comes with the camera.

thanks for that prices BriabjG and Carrigman look good but had a bad experience with picaco in germany, i was in dispute about photo charges they told me to take a hike, the european consumer centre were not able to resolve it too easily and it generate a lot of hassle. In short if I had a problem would be easier to sort it out with an English/Irish distributor. I read a similar thread where they found it difficult enough find someone to talk to someone on the germany side with a problem they had.

you might also try Digital wonder world . I've bought lenses from them in the past and they've been fine. €1588 for what you're after I think.

Just a quick reply to say you will love the lens!! I bought my 17-85 with a 350D from AC-foto... they were cheapest, prompt and nice. Had a few issues with the camera body but I love the lens to bits. Well wear and enjoy

Try Jessops.co.uk, i got my 350D there for much cheaper than anywhere else. The 30D, Body only is 1,222.01 and with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 Mkii Lens it is only 1,236.41 with free delivery to Ireland. Takes about a week for delivery but you get the warrantly and generally a pretty good service. I would definitely reccommend the body only and then use the rest towards the lens of your choice...

Would I be right in saying that the 30D is more weather sealed than a 350D?

Not really 'Weather Sealed' but the body is made of a magnesium alloy so it will be harder wearing than the 350D. It still doesn't have any o rings or gaskets like the 1 series do though. Still gotta bring your brolly with you I'm afraid.
