    Thierry Henry (France)
    Patrick Vieira (France)
    Zinedine Zidane (France)
    Michael Ballack (Germany)
    Miroslav Klose (Germany)
    Gianluigi Buffon (Italy)
    Fabio Cannavaro (Italy)
    Andrea Pirlo (Italy)
    Gianluca Zambrotta (Italy)
    Maniche (Portugal)

4 current and 2 past Juventus players in that list! So far it's Cannavaro for me by a country mile but I think Zidane will win it.

Yeah, I'd say Cannavaro by a mile aswell, unless Zidane pulls off another masterpiece in the final, though they usually give it out before then.

Agreed, Cannavaro has been the most impressive and very consistent.

I also agree Zidane will probably get it.

    Klose deserves a shout aswell

If France win it'll be Zidane, Italy win and it'll be Cannavaro. I think the award is given out on Monday, the day after the final.

With Zidane retiring they'll no doubt give it to him as a token gesture.

I reckon Vieira has been excellent in this world cup aswell.....but the chances of a defenive midfielder getting it are slim.

I reckon Klose, Ballack or ZiZou

Henry!? He's had a very poor WC in my eyes.

Yeah I agree with that. He should be on the list. His performance v Germany alone was probably the best by anyone in the entire tournament.

If France win it'll be Zidane, Italy win and it'll be Cannavaro.

I agree with this 100%, though you never know Buffon could sneak it if he is man of the match in the final and keeps it so that no opponent has scored on him in the entire world cup.

The award will be decided long before the final, so performances there don't have a bearing, it'll just be announced on Monday

Sure Ollie Kahn won it four years ago because of that

Kahn was the best player till the final though, when he screwed up for that goal :(

Rumour I heard is that he injured his hand/one of his fingers earlier in the game and was too proud/stupid to tell the bench. When he went to pick the shot up it hit him wherever his injury was and it was too painful for him to hold. 1-0 to Brazil.

Get rid of Henry and Ballack, and stick in Rodriguez and maybe Ayala/Marquez/Lahm and that's a good enough shortlist.

Cannavaro by a country mile for me.

Anyone know who votes for this?

If it's FIFA Zizou will win it hands down.
