As a graduate of TCD myself - something that really bugs me is the regular phone calls asking for money. It annoys me.

I get calls from "sales" people asking for money. I think it is cheap.

How often do you get called? I take it you got called a few minutes ago and needed a ranty post

I think that's the idea behind the whole thing. You go to the old boys' functions with your cheque book, reminisce and hand over cash. Cunts won't get a cent off me. They got four years' worth from the HEA and one year from my pocket and can fuck right off of they think they're getting any more. They did their job, I did mine and that's the end of it.

I agree that "cold calling" and soliciting cash is cheap but alumni financial support is and always has been a very important source of income for Trinity (and every other university). I was fortunate enough to receive a few scholarships/prizes endowed by alumni while an undergrad and postgrad in Trinity....and that enabled me, for example, to travel to conferences to present my research, which I would not have been able to do otherwise.

When I am in a position to give something back to Trinity...I will...

About 3 times a year actually!! And it takes 20 minutes to get them off the phone. I DIDN'T get a grant, and at that point, the government were not paying fees either. I had to pay for my own fees.

No need for the sarcasm ..

I had to work 5 nights a week to afford it .. I got no help whatsoever ..
I didn't even get to go out with people while there, I was so busy working to pay off the fees.
Now that I am working, and I finally have money for myself ..... I have no interest in handing it over ..
