I'm interested in making a career break and have heard about the intense course in Ballymaloe. I have always been very interested in cooking and was wondering if anyone has been on this, and if so would they recommend it?

    Out of order there Degsy!

Maggz - Given Darina Allen's reputation both at home & abroad I would imagine that it would be in interest to serious foodies.

No more trolling please. Lets keep it on the topic of the actual course. Degsy, feel free to start a non-food & drink related thread about your opinion in a different, more pertinent forum, like humanities.

On-topic, I've been told the ballymaloe courses are a rip-off. Hugely expensive. I would however, reccomend you look at the courses available from Cathal Brugha street D.I.T. if you're within commuting distance of Dublin. That said, I know someone who did very well for herself after doing a Ballymaloe course.

Cathal Bruagh St College of Catering is second to none and theier standards of hygene, personal turnout etc are very strict eg nails must be clipped every day.

It appears you must be over 23 for those DIT courses, that seems silly to me, no baking cakes til you're 23? I'm only 19, damn! :(
I'd say they're very well run cos my best friend is doing the degree in culinary arts there and loves it, seems like a very interesting course.
