Australia - Need Info

Ok Guys, Sorry but I've got a load of questions here. I figure getting other peoples advice is the best way to go. So if anyone can help me with info that you be useful to me plan below I'd be much obliged.

Ok firstly I plan to go to Australia, hopefully around November(ish) on a one-year working holiday visa. I hope to work for a few months doing some contract IT work and hopefully gather enough money from that and what I take over with me to do me for exploring the rest of the country for a few months. So here goes my questions.

    1. How much money from peoples experience do you reckon you would need to live over there for the year, between what you take with you and what you'll earn out there. I don't mind roughing it a bit, but in general would like to know how much you need to live comfortably enough with decent enough accommodation and still have enough money for the good nights out, weekends away and various activities etc while I'm there.

    2. How much and what is the best travel insurance etc to get and what would it cover.

    3. Flights and Visa wise, are you better off trawling around travel agents/websites looking for cheap flights and applying for the visa yourself; Or would you be better lets say going with USIT and getting one of thier packages. I like the idea also of the round the world packages, wouldn't mind stopping of in S America for a couple of months on the way home. If the travel agent option is the way to go, which ones?

    4. How much would you pick up a semi decent car out there for that would get you around the country without loads of hassle? Or would you be better off sticking with public transport? How much are internal flights?

    5. I'll be looking to do a bit of contract IT work as I reckon it'll pay a bit better than bar work etc, and I can make better use of the rest of my time then. Is there much of it knocking around at the minute and is it easy to get a job. I have 2 years experience with a good, large company and have mostly worked with VB6 and SQL, although I have experience with other languages from college C++,JAVA etc. Do you reckon I could pick up a job easy enough? Whats the pay like?

    6. Is there any other basic costs etc that I've overlooked that will need to be considered. Taking into account flights, visa, insurance etc.

I'll probably have mosre questions once I start getting some answers but I'll leave it at that for the minute :)

    Thanks in advance
