    Hi,

Im 19 and have just finished my leaving cert. I'm currently looking for a fulltime job until college starts and then I would like to be able to work part-time after that.

I am looking for something in south Dublin or City Centre.

I am looking for a well paying job in a retail store but not anything like Tesco or M&S. I have 9 months experience as a sales assistant in a pharmacy and 6 months experience merchandising. I have an interest in music, fashion and electronics.

    Can anybody suggest anything?

Don't set your expectations too high. Part time work is apparently difficult come by so you'll be lucky to get more than minimum wage. Personally, I'd recommend Dunnes, I worked for them during college and, while some of the managers were jumped up little pricks, they paid quite well and there was a great sense of camradery and craic with the other staff there...

Well Sleepy when I say well payed Im talking more then my last two jobs where I got 7.50 an hour in both.

Anyone know any jobs going for me?

I have great people skills and have one three distinguished delegate awarsds in the Model United Nations and was part of a distinguished delegation back in October.

Worked in Dunnes for a summer. Although the pay was fine, something like €7.70 an hour; the work was pretty awful, some of the managers were completely blatant power hungry losers who got a hard on from ordering 20 year olds around, and the hours were absolutely terrible. I rarely got to just hang out with my friends because I was working all day Saturday and Sunday every weekend. Kinda ruined my summer actually.

at 19, with that little experience you cant be expected to be paid much more, unless you know people in banks or hospitals who would give you clerical work, they pay 10e-11e usually, but you have to know people to get those kinds of jobs, and theyre the kind of jobs nobody "enjoys".

so its either minimum wage and enjoy work and a little more with friends in the biz and hate it! up to you.

you could do what i did for every summer of school, get a waitressing job, becuase therere you earn minimum wage, but you also get tips, especially if youre doing lounge person, plenty of drunken people who will give you tips for going up to the bar for them, thats the only real way you can make more money at your age.

    best of luck.

i work in clothes retail, it's great craic. at the moment all the managers are bang on, but we've had one or two assholes.

Try a|wear, Arnotts, River Island, Brown Thomas, Clery's, BT2, Topshop etc.

My advice don't randomly hand out CV's only apply to places where you know are hiring, otherwise you'll waste a load of time. Aply to places like M&S and Dunnes as they always hire in bulk in summer. 7.70 an hour is better than watching day time tv. I used to work in Dunnes for less than that, and yes it was hell but at least I was making something of myself in the free summer I had.

Have you tried applying to places like Game, Dixons, or Gamestop? I work in games retail, and the guys I work with are great - that applies to both staff and managers in my branch :) Money isn't too bad - above minimum, and staff discount is useful.

I have to say 7.50 an hour for a part time job is being paid well, when i was looking for a part time job durning school i was paid 1.75 punt an hour( and please noone saying things have gotten more expensive and such, that just what i got paid).

Also you have left it very late to try find a Full time job for the summer, you only have 2 months left before you start college, and employers will have loads of part-time staff already asking for more hours.

Have you tried temping agencies, you'll be paid well and the time frame may suit you.

Given that minimum wage in this country is €7.65 an hour, €7.50 is terrible.

You have also left it VERY late...Most places take on staff in Spring for the Summer...

    Good luck anyway...

Technically speaking €7.65 is the minimum wage for an adult who has been employed in any job in any two years since the age of 18.

If you're going to be that picky, you probably won't be too successful.

If you like electronics, try a mobile phone store.

    Hey!

THanks for all the advice, I tried a few places yesterday including some electronics stores but was called for a second interview with Dunnes today and they offered me a job, Fulltime earning 8.17 and time and a half on Sunday. Better then the last two summers at least. I know alot of people have had different experiences with them but I guess Ill soon find out first hand, start work tomorow and the people Ive talked to so far seem nice.

    Cheers
