    Hi,

Recently ,Ive been getting low physical memory warning messages when I try to load up song files on cubase, resulting in the load failing. I never used to get these messages, and there's nothing big running in the background or on startup that could be eating up my ram. Ive got a gig of ddr400 twin mos which was doing the job brilliantly up to this.

Any ideas what I could do to sort this?

    Cheers

    Are you running Windows XP?

    Click Start->Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->System->Advanced tab
Under Performance click the Settings button.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Under Virtual Memory, click the Change button.
Under Paging file size for selected drive, put a tick next to Custom size:.

The minimum should be 1.5 times your memory size. The maximum should be three times your memory. If you continue to have problems, raise the maximum. Keep raising it until you no longer get the message.
    Then click the Set button.

Instruments & synths on Cubase eat up ram. you'll end up puttin more ram in pc 2 solve that. Friend of mine had 2 go to 2gig 4 same reason. But then he had Reason & Ableton running at same time as well.

Ruu, just tried that and unfortunately, it didnt stop it.

PogMoThoin, I know what youre saying about the amount of ram these programs use up. But they worked fine before and nothings been added to the projects I'm trying to open.

How can I be sure that I'm getting the most out of all my ram? Is there some setting I'm overlooking?

    Cheers

I know its very annoying. Friend had same prob.
How much space have you left on your hd for the page file?
Have you progs running in the background?
Do you have a lot of startup items in the tray. These can all add up. some can be turned off in msconfig if you feel confident enough. google the names top find out what they are. A safer option is a prog called Startup inspector which gives you information on each startup item and weather it can be safely turned off.

righth click on my computer amd select properties and see if the gb is installed about a week ago i found my pc slowing down looked in the case and a stick of ram was half out of the holder.

    probally from transport or something.

run memory test and see if ram is ok

Boot up your PC fresh and don't open any programs. Give it a minute or so to make sure everything's fully loaded up. Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and at the bottom right that'll show you your commit charge (memory in use), this'll be something like 200M/3000M, which'd be 200Mb in use out of a possible 3000Mb (1gb ram + 2gb virtual mem/pagefile). XP with a decent amount of inbuilt services running with 3rd party anti-virus and firewall, should use somewhere in the region of 200Mb. If it's much more than that you've probably got something running that you either don't need, or don't want. With task manager still open, launch cubase and keep an eye on the commit charge to see how it affects it. Then try opening some files to see how that affects it. Then you should have some idea where the problem lies.
