In the last 3 days or so my OCZ PowerStream 520watt has started clicking. And last night then there was a bad smell coming from it :). So i turned it off and to my sirprise it powered on again. Well now im not going to turn it back on due to whats going to happen next. Anyone else here ever have a clicking PSU ?

I hope OCZ are good to there word and will replace my 2 year old PSU. They give u a 5 year warenty but looking at there web site last night they seem to be bassed in the USA. Hope i dont need to send PSU back to the usa that would be costly.

Was looking at todays PSU's on komplett web site and i think PSU have gone up in price in general.

OCZ's RMA's for this region are handled by an office in the Netherlands I believe.

They have a good support forum where you can request an RMA from them or pick their brains on the clicking problem with your PSU if you want. But it doesnt sound like the PSU is in good shape either way.

Ah yes, the old clicking PSU problem. I used to have a 520W Powerstream which had this problem and after some digging came across the OCZ forums on Bleeding Edge. A few people have all had this issue and they've all had their units RMA'd so just post there and they'll sort it out for you. OCZ were fantastic with me personally. I had a LOAD of problems with 3 different PowerStream units (all of them were replaced immediately and without questions under their PowerSwap program) and as of yesterday morning they gave me a brand spanking new GameXSteam 700W PSU to say sorry, can't get much nicer than that. :D

Gah, delayed posting...Yes their office is in the Netherlands which means if you do an RMA it will have to go over there. Hopefully you're supplier will foot the bill though. It costs €48 to get it couriered over and once they recieve it testing and turn around is very quick.

    Power supplies are cheap.

Just ring a reseller like Morse.ie and ask them for one.

When u say supplier do u mean the company i bought it from ? That would be overclockers i just cant c them paying for the postage as its about 2 years ago now.

Who did u use to ship your psu back ?

Also i must add the clicking noise was getting loader and loader all the time.

    Thanks.

If I were you I'd go grab this one.
Not cheap but it's guaranteed to do the business.

Id stay with the OCZ's they give better performace.
OP: Drop RyderOCZ or BigToe a line thell sort u out theyir nice guys.

Yea thats what I meant however after 2 years I do doubt Overclockers will pay it for you, no harm in asking though.

My supplier, who happened to be a mate, sent it back via courir however An Post will do it for you the same. They do specify you send it securely with some bubble wrap etc though so be careful.

Yea the clicking noise was noticable on mine when the unit was turned off. It wasn't present when it was on. If yours is like this then it sounds like its on the way out so I'd get on that RMA asap.

It's been clicking for some time now, stable voltages troughout (not OC-ing).

Emailed one of the guys mentioned above and was refered to a form i have to fill out for a rma. Pc downs time :(

Mine is doing that as well, normally after it is on for some time. Dont really care though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

Yep, the clicking isn't necessarily a sign that its going to die. There was an explanation for it on the forums that siad it was something to do with voltage differences.

That said they still offered to replace any units. :)

Well just after taking it out as it was scaring me. Turned it on and all seemed fine until about a min turing it on then the first click started. Just shut it down stright away and now i have my Seasonic in my main computer. I liked the OCZ with all its colours :)

It is, thats a right pain having to send it to the states. Maybe email and see if theres somewhere in Europe that could deal with it.

Man that sucks as my PSU is very heavy. Cost allot at the time i bought it and i did not use it all that much. Dont know if i should send it or just get a new one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭BadCharlie

Well i sent back my PSU it did cost 48yoyo's but there sending me on a OCZ GameXStream 600W as a replacment. Well i think its great after 2 years they just replaced my PSU for me when it went wrong.

Prob will have it in the next 2 weeks or so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,391 ✭✭✭jozi

I'm quite possibly going to rma mine as well next week, before going on hols.

How bad was the clicking on yours? I can just about hear mine ticking at night when the ps is off, can just about hear it when it powered on as well but only if i put my ear up close to the back of the case.

I dont really want to spend 48 euro and have them return the same one, unless its a non ticking same one.

Mine was very bad. The clicking was very hard to notice at the start but within 2weeks it got very loud. I was thinking some screw must be lose in the PSU but i could c noting. It got to a stage it was scarying me and i fired it would blow and take out some of my computer.

Mine might have been always clicking but i never noticed it till almost 2 years on.

Have to say i liked that PSU i had i hope the one im going to get inreturn will be just as nice.

I guess im better of sending this away before it does get worse.

Only concern i would have with getting a different psu in return would be that it isnt to noisey, i like to keep the pc as quiet as possible.

Keep us updated on when you get the new psu, what its like etc.... Anyone elsewho has the OCZ GameXStream 600W?

Wow OCZ deal with RMA's fast.

I sent in the RMA request a few days before my holidays so as they could deal with it while i was a way and i have less down time. Got email back same day i think and I had to post mine to Holland.
I was going to Holland for my hols so i figured i might as well send it when i get there. Posted on thuesday, email yesterday about my address (i had a dutch return address in case i wasnt delivered) which i only replied to today. Email back shortly after to let me know a new 600Watt (different, newer model) unit is on its way, i checked the tracking and its in Rotterdam so expect it in a few days. It only took them a day, if even to deal with it which i have to say is pretty damn good IMO.

PogMoThoin: whats the psu like? Is it load being my only concern really as i assume it a top notch psu otherwise.

Recieved the psu this morning, not tried it yet naturaly. Kinda slow delivery once it landed in irl, took 2 days to get to irl and 3 to get it to cavan (maybe thats the problem:P)
Cant wait to try it, hope its not a noisey unit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,614 ✭✭✭BadCharlie

Im still waiting on mine. Gave them an e-mail about it a few days back got a replay and it looks like it had not reached ireland yet. Will check maybe the weekend when i get the time.
