Weird Problem

    Hey all,

I put new RAM into a pc. It's defintly defintly the right stuff. I even tried it in another machine that is the exact same as the original machine.

When I booted up I got a BIOS beep at regular intervals. So, I took the new ram out so all that remained was the old RAM.

However, now I don't even get a BIOS beep. The monitor has a flashing green light on it, as if it's not receiving any signal. The hard-drive is spinning perfectly, fan is working etc etc but it would boot up in any way, shape or form!!

    Any ideas???

Check everything else is plugged in properly. Graphics cards often get loose pretty easily, for example.

Everything is connected fine. I even put in a different graphics card but the bios still won't beep, boot up.....nothing!!

I also tried taking out the battery on the mother board for a few hours but it didn't make any difference when i put it back in!!

I've put the same type of RAM into 80 machines that are all exactly the same and this one is the only one that's giving a problem.

There was no chassis intrusion dectection on the other machines.

Is it possible that I have corrupted the bios or something?? All I did was put RAM in!!!!

You could always clear your CMOS memory, refer to the motherboard manual for evidence of a CMOS (maybe BIOS) clear jumper. I think removing the CMOS battery will also clear it, I think you have to leave it out for a few hours and then put it back in. Before you do this, write down the settings of your current hardware incase you have to input them again.

Cheers.....I'll give it a go! I've already tried removing the CMOS battery for a few hours. I'll give the clear jumper a go!

I got instructions on how to clear the cmos memory.

    It says:

Remove the battery and then to "short the solder points" .....how do I go about shorting the solder points??

The cmos is 3 pins on the motherboard covered by a plastic jumper that only fits on 2. So one pin to either side is always bare. By taking out the plastic jumper and putting it back in, so that the pin that was unconvered is now covered, and visa-versa, and then turning on your pc clears c-mos. Change it back afterwards. Hope that helps its hard to explain.

Chassis intrusion dection is a annoying little setting that makes the pc refuse to boot up when something gets changed untill its reset. This is done in much the same way as clearing your c-mos, except a different jumper on the mainboard.
