I am going for a job with a large company who use Competency Based Interview Techniques. If you don't know exactly what that is read this:
    http://www.highways.gov.uk/jobs/3338.aspx

I really want this job but I know the interview is going to be tough, so I want to do as much preparation as possible. It is for a job in IT sales. I was wondering if anyone has any direct advice for me or can point me in the right direction.
    Thanks

I've done those lots of times in the past, not sure if I am any good at them but I seem to have got the jobs, so can't be too bad! I would say prepare as many examples as you can of situations where e.g. your actions had a positive outcome, such as winning a big sale or winning back a lost customer; your actions had a negative outcome and what you did to deal with it; a time when you had several high-priority tasks to deal with and how you managed to juggle them. If you are going for a management role, you need to demonstrate your ability to manage your workload by delegating. Show that you understand how your actions impact the bottom line. Above all, make the examples real!! I think it is better to have a really simple example of something you really have achieved than to make one up just to make yourself sound good.

    Best of luck

I had a Compentancy based interview for the job i'm in at the moment.

I was terrified as I didn't know what to expect but found it to be alot more professional and to the point than other interviws I have had.

Basically what they were looking for is examples examples and more examples.
The will ask things like give an example of a time when you feel you showed leadership skills, worked as a team, took control of a situation that was going out of control.

They also ask you for examples of conflict in the work place and how you handled it.

Basically its a way of getting to know you without all the boring tell me about yourself questions.

Good Luck with the interview :)

Cheers guys, does anyone know a website with lists of questions and example answers etc?

I was told by HR that the 2 interviewers will be looking for 6 main competencies - can anyone suggest what they may be for a IT Salels job?
