New 13434 Mobile Access Number

    I just got an email from the people at 13434 telling me about their new mobile access number, I tried it and it works.
    The number is 01 4364145, although you need to be registered with 13434.ie to use it. They're offering calls to the following countries for only 1 cent per minute:

    France
    Poland
    Russia
    United Kingdom
    United States

    As far as I know the rate doesn't include the cost of dialing the local access Dublin number; and there's a 5c. per call connection fee. Even so if you have inclusive mins. to landlines on your rental plan or a good rate on landline calls with your network, its a bargain.

    If you haven't heard about 13434 or want to know more here's their web address: www.13434.ie
    Rates for other international destinations: http://www.13434.ie/mobilerates.php

    I use them and find the service excellent.

    I doubt if mobile operators will be charging landline rates for their access number - the small print says :

    "* Mobile operators may charge for calls to our 1800 and 014 number depending on your operator and tariff plan; please check with your mobile operator for correct rates."

    Which to me maeans it won't be billed as a regualr call. Still though - worth checking out.
    Does anybody know how much mobile companies will be charging for this number ?

    its a huge rip off ... if u call this number 0818242526 ... you can call almost any country for the price of the call courtesy of budget telecom .... ie its free once you call the access number .... the 13434 is easy to dial if you are on landline ... but requires account and is chargable depending on destination .... seem like a rip off considering most people have broadband now:rolleyes:

    What are you talking about, broadband access from a mobile phone???

    Looks like a good deal to me for low cost international calls for a mobile; e.g. Vodafone standard rate for calls to Australian mobile phone;

    Vodafone ReadyToGo = €1.92 per minute
    ==============================

    Call to Australian mobile via call13434 from Vodafone ReadyToGo (off-peak);
    Vodafone: 01 4364145 = €0.15 per minute
    call13434 Aus. Mobile = €0.15 per minute
    ================================
    Total Cost €0.30 per minute

    Saving = €1.62 per minute!!!

    As for BudgetTelecom (AirTalk);

    Cost to Australian Mobile = €0.59 per minute.....so, call13434 works out at half the cost!!!!!
    =================================

    I think Teh Monk above is confused... this 13434 number is for making international calls cheaply from MOBILES not landlines....

    The number you have to dial is: 01 4364145
    Which is a Dublin nember...
    The cost of calling that number will depend on you mobile Operator, Tarriff and the time of day/weekend.

    eg A ten minute WEEKEND mobile to mobile call in thailand on 13434 would cost me:
    5c(setup)+10c(1c x 10 13434)+10c(1c x 10 o2)= 25c

    The same call on Airtalk would cost me 10x20=200c

    The same using a global caller card would cost me 150(15c x 10 Globalcaller)10c(1c x 10 o2) = 160

    The same on o2 would cost me well over a tenner

    So there are great savings to be made ... Just have to wait for the weekend!

    geecee goe read the website .... you dial 13434 from your landline at home stupid ..... then you will save cash on eircom or whoever is your fon provider for international calls ...... the dublin number is for mobile access

    The cost of calling that number will depend on you mobile Operator, Tarriff and the time of day/weekend.

    and you get suckered by 13434 after that for connecting the international call !!!!! this seems expensive operator service given that skype vonage can do this for half nothing

    Why do this when u can call budget telecom on 0818242526 ....

    also another landline rate call from your mobile AFAIK

    ..... and then pay nothing for connecting your international call .....

    My point is that in the age of VOIP calling that 13434 really is not good value !!!!! not that mobile VOIP is the Better option as somebofy tried to suggest

    There are plenty of other options for calling international numbers from mobiles, for example calling cards, special international tariff plans (like this one from Meteor: http://www.meteor.ie/makethemove/anytimeinternational.html.) and budget operators using 1890/0818/1552 numbers (like Dialwise: http://www.dialwise.ie/index2.php.) I think its up to each person to choose whatever option is the most cost effective and convenient for them. In my original post I was simply highlighting a new option that wasn’t available until now. An option that may be considerably cheaper for some people.

    It's a mistake to assume mobile operators charge normal mobile to landline rates for 0818 and 1890 numbers, I've done a quick summary of what the actual charges are.

    Charges for 0818 calls from mobiles:

    O2 charges 31c per min (prepaid) details here: http://www.o2online.ie/wps/wcm/connect/O2/Home/Shop/Phones/Price+plans/Speak+easy+prepay/Other+call+charges/

    Meteor charges 25c per min (prepaid) details here: http://www.meteor.ie/makethemove/callcost_tables.html

    3 Ireland charges 30c per min (prepaid) details here (page 13): http://www.3ireland.ie/BlobServer.srv?blobdir=ROIImportantDoc&blobfile=ROI+price+guide+may06%2C0.pdf

    Only Vodafone charges mobile to landline rates according to price plan with peak/off peak rates applying (prepaid), details here:http://www.vodafone.ie/readytogo/tariffs/othercharges/index.jsp

    Except for Vodafone these rates don't vary depending on what day or when you call. Also bear in mind 0818 and 1890 calls are almost never included in inclusive minutes on any calling plan on any mobile network. So if you’re on a bill pay phone you’ll always be paying for them outside of any bundled minutes.

    Sorry - Themonk
    But I think YOU are the stupid one!

    Read what we are telling you!
    and read the first line on Oracle (the original posters) post:
    I just got an email from the people at 13434 telling me about their new mobile access number, I tried it and it works.

    Nobody is disputing there are cheaper ways to call internationally from a landline or over VOIP... but for call from mobiles i don't think the 13434 offering can be beaten...

    1. You register your mobile number with them
    2.From your MOBILE you dial 01 4364145 (thats a dublin telephone number)
    3.When they answer you type the number you want to call... the then tell you what that call will cost per minute. You can choose to terminate the call at that point (has only cot u the cot of the 01 call) or you can continue with your call
    4. Your mobile operator charges u for the 01 call. 13434 charges you for the international portion (as the rate advertised)

    And as Oracle points out below most 1890/0818 numbers are blocked or chatged at a premium rate from mobiles

    the 13434 service is not for calling cheaply from mobiles ... thats my point !!!!

    furthermore you point put the service is not for landlines !
    it has been a landine international tarriff saver service since it was introduced earlier this year !!!! and the mobiel access was only added this month!!!

    My point is that access via budget telecom is Free ... no account no extra connect charge ... nothing extra ... you call in and dial ... you pay for access via 0818 ..... this number on my meteor mobile is accessible on pay as you go at local call rate .... this in my opinion show the 13434 access is not a bargain ... hence my point so im confused about nothing here ...

    I guess we will have to agree to disagree so!

    Or maybe Meteor charge lower rates than those they advertise?
    Ref the post from Oracle below
    The 0818 number is charged at 31c per minute on 02
    and 25c per min on Meteor

    The 13434 call costs as little as 1c PM to o2, 1c PM to 13434 and 5c call set up= 7c...for first minute, 2 c per min thereafter (assuming calling at the weekend)

    Surely a saving against calling the 0818 number?

    The 01 number can also be used as part of your inclusive miinutes

    Besides that budget telecom have new become Airtalk and use 1520 300 300
    which is charged at 20c PM on o2 and 30 PM on meteor and do not seem to offer many destinations on the 0818242526 number anymore

    [/QUOTE]

    I have used budget telecom for the last 2 years calling canada and the us extensively .... my call paln with meteor allows access at 13 c PM evening and all weekend on pay as you go .... heres my price plan meteor .... http://www.meteor.ie/makethemove/leisuretime_legacy.html my point was that cheap access has been obtainable ...

    a bargain it may be if u can get mobile access ... and its likely that calls will get cheaper again soon ( gasp ) with skype now offering free dialout access in the US
