    Hi folks,

Wanna pick up a DS lite and want all the USEFUL extras and would like a few recommendations of games.

would this pack be useful: http://play.com/Games/DS/4-/1027497/Joytech_Tech_Pack_XL/Product.html

I'm a total noob to the DS world - just liked the look of it and not interested in a PSP (or the PSP's price).

    Any recommendations appreciated....

Seems like a good enough package but there is already countless threads about this "gonna get a ds" business.

They are prolly on the second page so have a gawk at what they say.

Enjoy your ds when you get it;)

cool - will have a look. Its just a total impulse buy for me - was passing a shop today and just liked what I saw. Sorry for repeat question...

A case might be a good idea, although the lite isn't a paint job like the phat so it won't scratch off but if it's anything like an iPod it still runs the risk of getting ruined in your pocket.
Don't get cart cases (well, I wouldnt), just get a carry case that has space for them... the great thing about carts is they don't get scratched like CD's etc. so they're a little bit more sturdy.
Extra stylus' is a good idea, but don't get them until you need them, you might end up losing your spares then too :D
Screen wipe isn't a bad idea (I usually use my tshirt) and screen protectors depend on the way your going to use your DS. I have mine since launch (original launch) and there might be one tiny hairline scratch on it that has no effect on gameplay at all (and is only visible at certain angles). I'm sure other people (and young kids) have been a bit more aggressive with theirs.
a USB or Car charger might be a good idea if you think it would come in useful (do you drive and if so, why are you playing your DS!! :D) and headphones with a mic might be handy if you're getting Metroid and have wifi at home

I got mine on an impulse buy and cant stop playing it. I got that brain age game and Animal crossing, with more games coming from play asia.

You wont do wrong in getting this. with the right addons it can equal the psp function wise. afaik theres a device called the M3? which allows you to use a SD card or compact flash card as extra memory for media. and Opera are releasing an internet browser for it shortly Here
    not sure when here tho.

I've posted this a few times already but have a look at http://www.irishgamer.ie/features.php?id=5&page=1 for prices from Irish retailers and their offers.

I think with the delay in announcing a new Play Yan we could be in for a newer version for the dsl.

Well i went ahead and ordered it and bought the following games:

    New Super Mario Bros

    Mario Kart DS
    Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Castlevania Double Pack (Harmony Of Dissonance + Aria Of Sorrow) (GBA)
    Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow

And I'm trying to hunt down Castelvania: Circle of Moon just for good measure. :D

    How'd I do?

can't comment on advance wars , but the other 5 games are absolutely top notch stuff:)

Well I heard good things about the original advance wars game on the GBA - Its the highest scoring game in history on IGN.com - so I thought it must be good.

Dual Strike got a few very good reviews so I assume its more of the same.

It's fantasticle, no matter what all the nay sayers say about it(possibly nay).

By the way Gamestop have a similar accessory pack. Comes with screen protectors, carry case, blah blah blah. Emergency charger iirc. so you can charge up on the go if needs be. €15 in Gamestop and €32 for the same one in HMV. Was laughing my head off when I saw the price differences in shops 2 doors down from each other. Get Mario 64 as well. Quality title.

Let me get this right then - there's no region restrictions in place on this console no?

I'm going travelling in October starting in Hong Kong so it would be likely I could pick up a bunch of stuff there and they will work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

The only region restriction is on the China version of games which everybody else is unable to play, so dont buy games in China.

There is also some issues with multicard wifi compatibility but they are sporadic, just remember to get a hong kong charger so you can play your existing games.

Advance Wars is a cracking game.

Have to agree with Lemlin, it is a cracking game, pretty steep learning curve, for me being a newbie to the series, but once you get the hang of everything you'll be flying.

I'm only there for a week visiting friends before moving on so It shouldn't be much of an issue. I might be able to pick up a ton of games in bangkok though - dirt cheap too maybe.

We shall wait and see - I don't wanna spend too much money before I hit Australia either! Although I could sell games for drink when I'm there.

Keep in mind the language; not sure how it works on foreign games but you may need to either get some help to find the language options or in some cases know the language :D

Fair point - my Japanese isn't the greatest. I'm a lazy ****er though so i'd prob be happy enough buying the games here even if they are more expensive/out later.

I assume the wifi option is illegal to use on airplanes if say me and the girlfriend both had a ds??

    Dear Neil

Thank you for your recent order of: Nintendo DS Lite Console - Black

Unfortunately we have been unable to fulfil your order for which we
apologise. This is because we cannot currently send electrical goods to
    European destinations.

Due to a system anomaly your card was charged. We have arranged for a full
refund to be issued to the credit/debit card currently on your Play
account. This will show on your card statement within 3 working days.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused to
yourself in this matter, and thank you for your patience and
    understanding.

    Kind Regards

    Play

I love this - I've spent 1200 sterling on that account. I order five games that total up higher than the price of the console and they won't send me it.

To be honest I'm happy enough because if I can get to Game I can pick one up for 165 with Metroid Prime: Hunters. I was only saving 4 euro by ordering on play anyways.

But its pissed me off that they've charged my card and then decided not to send it.

Anyone know if Game are stocking black ones?

More than likely, they aren't flying of the shelves anyway

    Another question.

Do GBA games that were multiplayer over a link cable work over the wifi connection on the DS?

Be very useful if that was the case...

Edit - I don't think they do looking at a few vague comments about the subject which is a sickner.

On another note - anyone here get stung by customs for orders from playasia? Bought another DSL for the girlfriend (pink) and am just wondering will I get murdered?

They don't; at least Advance Wars 2 didn't; the fact that there's no place to use the GBA cable is a bit annoying too, but I guess it'd be more like a GBA2 then :D

Yeah, that's a bit dodge, but even places like Amazon won't ship electronics outside certain regions.

They had some in Limerick last weekend when I got mine.
