Im 18 and living in Waterford...my friends at AON are requesting €2580 off me. Lovely. Can anyone tell me how AON are about monthly insurance? Deposit wise etc..

Its horrible looking at it taunting me in my own front garden, knowing I cant take it out for a cross-country spin :(
And of course, I'll be seeking lessons once the insurance actually does materialise.

Did you try Carole Nash? Must be so frustrating not being able to go for a ride! :(

Carole nash wont insure an 18 year old that has never driven a bike before.......

My mate has the same bike, they are nice for what they are. Bit faster than i thought they would be, but still incredibly slow compared to what im used to! They are nippy enough to keep a newbie happy tho :)

Well AON refused to quote me (25 year old on his first provisional) on a Bandit 600. I asked them if they could quote me if I had a full license and they said no... That's me done with AON then!

AON are ridiculous. How in the name of christ am I going to do €2580's worth of damage on a virago? Unless I kill someone, it'll pay for their funeral.

Get some proper training and do the Aon Bikecare test. Even if you only get a grade 4, the discounted insurance will pay for the training.

    More info from Aon's brochure.

That a restricted bandit Steffano? Think I was quoted €3400 on a restricted bandit a few weeks ago. 23 first prov in Dublin.

Indeed it is restricted (Carole Nash never actually asked me about the restriction - but it has to be resticted because it's the law).
I think the difference between your quote and mine is the age difference of 2 years (has to be cos I'm also in Dublin with a Provisional). 25 is the magic number when it comes to insurance in this country!

Is the €2580 third party or comp?

I don't understand. AON is less ageist than Carole Nash. Why did they refuse to quote you? Your age and provisional license are not grounds enough to refuse you a quote when they are quoting younger and equally licensed riders (greater risk).

My insurance is up for renewal in October,

    Aon:
    Yamaha Fazer 600 restricted
    Age 25
    Quote: €630 TPO
    License: Full

    Madness.

That's why I'm done with them... I'll stick with Carole! She's a great woman she is :p

Ah I used to have that model. Nice little bike to start off on. Some words of advice. Dont leave the keys in the ignition, in the on position. Even with the electrics kill switch on and lights off. The battery will run down in something like 15min. There are back rests you can get for the pillion seat. They add a fantastic look to the bike. Plus are very good if you do carry a pillion. The bikes not that fast. Mine always had problems reaching 70/75MPH. It will be redlining it if you try. (You'll hear the motor go nuts after 60MPH) Mind the rear wheel. It has tendances to lock up easy in the wet. So brake easy with it. The front brake isn't that good as the wheel is so tin on the front. So only use it at low speeds. or to bring the bike to a stop.

Its a very light bike. So mind if you put a tarp on and leave it out in a wind. My old one liked to blow over and it didn't take much to do it. Lastly, Keep it clean. They are lovely looking bikes. Lots of crome. Looks fantastic on a nice day.

Oh and drive safely and enjoy it. there lots of fun and east to trow around, making them more agile then they look :)

    just a word of warning,
in the escond picture you have the front wheel turned the wrong way.
i have the same bike and if you leave it sitting like that it WILL fall over.

my bike fell over plenty before i copped that one ;)

The bike needs to be FACTORY restricted from brand new to make any difference on your insurance.

If you buy a full power bike, get the restriction kit put on it in a bike shop so that you won't be invalidating your licence, the insurance company don't give you any discount, your are still charged as if the bike was full power

350 a month?! Sure thats almost double the standard rate of yearly insurance..
I rang AON today to see what the story was, but after ringing non-stop for near an hour, no-one had planned on picking up..maybe they had the feeling that I wanted to insure my bike :(

<snip> Oh, and its TPO Im looking for.

Yeah,I've had this problem already...my dad parked it up, and when the safety kicked in after he put the stand down, he assumed it was grand to up and leave it.. in 1st gear, engine running >_<

He also parked it in such a tight position that it took me around 10minutes to get it back bloody out.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I meant to say it is restricted because it is the law, it is not factory restricted. I know I am insured for a Group 10 bike and not a Group 5 bike. I just think it's stupid for CN to quote me €1740 EUR TPO and AON to say they can't insure me...
