Urban Spiral play in Annesley House on Friday 7th July. We are a covers band and have a good range of songs from bands like Pink, Kelly Clarkson to Led Zeppelin, U2, Green Day and many many more.....€6 at the door. Starts at 9pm. Good night to be had! ;)

Oh well that's ok then. Because nearly all of these type of gigs are free admission y'know...

I've heard this attitude time and time again and I hate to point out that the general public do not owe you a living regardless what you may think you "deserve"

If you're strictly financially motivated (which judging by your post is a fair observation) trust me there's easier ways to make money and less stressful methods too.

The point I was trying to make was that it is not standard practice for bars to charge at the door for cover bands unless you're talking about the so-called "named acts" (Who's Eddie, Boogie Nights etc etc). Maybe they are the gigs you're referring to but you can still make money from gigs without having to charge a hefty €6 admission. But if you can do it successfully, more power to ya!:D

And just how did these bands start off, exactly,

Savman, you have me all wrong so dont go off on a big speech about how you hate this attitude, i was just saying that we can make money too as well as originals band as we work just as hard.....i didnt say i was in it just for the money......get your facts right before you have a go at people

Whoah...whoah! Calm down there people. I'm just telling you that its not common for cover bands to charge at the door unless you have a good following that will come to your gigs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise you should be looking at other alternatives.

Get what back exactly? If not money then what? You're both getting on the defensive here, it quite an overreaction considering I only commented on your door admission and not the band itself.

Can you please show me where I said that? My exact words were I've heard this attitude time and time again and I hate to point out that the general public do not owe you a living. Not quite the same thing so chill out Bitsie ffs.

I don't really wish to continue this but like I said, whatever works for you.
    Toodles

look , it seems like alot of crossed wires here, so ill just say that i agree that the public doesnt owe us anything but im just saying that its nice when we can make some money from it as a little bonus like for what we do, lets us know too that we are not the worst band in the world!! .......simple as that.......are we cool?

    are we cool?
Yep gimme a hug ye big lug :D:D:D

Well what I've been trying to say is that you should charge the venue directly and they should be letting people in free. You get paid, venue gets punters, punters get free night everyone's happy. Admittedly the Annesley doesnt really work that way but there are many that do.

If ye have any free gigs I might go along... :D:D:D:D

yeah i know what you mean, ill let you know if we have any free ones coming up. Its just the last few gigs we have done in Annesley, Slatterys and Boom Boom Room, you have to pay to rent the room so that why there is a charge on the door just so we can break even.....its not even about making an extra lump of money....anyway,,,, big hugs back at ya!
