Philips DECT 1222 with Blueface

    Hi,

I'm thinking about geting a Philips Dect 1222 phone, for use with Blueface.

Has anyone had experience, or problems, with this phone?

I've had the following problems with my BT Studio 100 and Blueface

. Usually takes 10-15 seconds to dial out (i.e. 10-15 secs before I hear ringing or engaged tone)

. Only succeeds in dialing out every second attempt (get engaged tone every other time, again after 10-15 secs)

. The screen on the handset resets after a few seconds when in use. E.g. if you are keying in a phone number you need to be quick or you'll have to start again. If you get the whole number keyed in and press the "call" button before the "timeout" its fine (except that half the time you'll have to press the redial button because the phone only dials out sucessfully one out of every two tries). The same thing happens when using the menu on the handset, after a few seconds the screen returns to the default screen, no matter how fast you press the keys, with little or no pauses. Curiously this problem doesn't occur when the cradle is plugged out (this is the only way I could add numbers to the phonebook!). I haven't tried it with a landline, but I wonder is there something about the VoIP signal that confuses the phone?

Bought a Philips Dect 121 at the weekend to use with Blueface I was using UK connector Samsung Dect phone with the convertor on the end of it but it sounded noisey to folks I rang on it.

I too experience a lengthy 10-15 second pause before I hear ringing, so changing phones won't fix that, it might fix the every second call dialling issues.

I to have bad experience with BT Dect Phones, if I dial a freephone number or number where you have to select different options, it cuts off and gives me a no system error and thats just on the Eircom phone line. Not recommended.

Also make sure if you do buy your Philips don't buy it off Argos/Dixons/Currys or any UK company as they'll come with UK connector, I bought my Philips in Powercity gaurenteeed Irish/European connector.

    Cheers

    Snake ;)

Dialling hash # at the end of the number you're calling should make the call connect more quickly.

Unlike the regular PSTN (which normally carries out b number analysis as you diall each digit) VOIP / SIP phones and ATAs wait untill you've finished dialling the complete phone number before sending it as a whole to the VOIP provider for connection of a call.

Most ATAs are set to wait untill there are no digits dialled for 10-15 seconds before they send the number out. Pressing # overides this wait on some equipment.

It does, thank you for that very useful information.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a UK connector (and adaptor) with my BT 100, I wonder if the UK connector is causing some of the problems?

Can you check that pressing # after dialing speeds up the connection on the Philips? If so, then are you able to add # to the end of the numbers in the phone's phonebook and get quick connects?

Note: Argos are selling the Philips 1222 for €43 (current in-store price). The 122 has a slightly better spec than the 121 (e.g. phonebook stores 30 numbers rather than 10), so if I can rule out the UK connector being a problem I'll go for it.

I use a Siemens Gigaset with Smart076 and its fine. I used use a BT model as well without any issues (and it was second-hand from eBay).

You should be able to replace your BT adaptor and cable with a normal modem cable .
