im organising a poker tournament fund raiser for club i am in
im thinking of being the tournament director myself to save us paying for one..
i have played 4 a few years and pretty much know the rules and how to rule on certain decisions..
is this a good or a bad idea???
or should i get a TD from the fitz or the merrion???
like i said we want to make as much as possible,,should i just do it and hope there are no tricky situations
Also anybody know of a CHEAP TD who would be experienced?
    any advice would be appreciated

There are certain advantages to doing this yourself such as cost saving etc.

However having to make rulings with people who don't know the rules and who may see certain decisions as arbitrary and in the heat of the moment fall out with you is not a great idea.

The thing to bear in mind is you know these people as a member of the club so having to rule aginst them or being put under pressure to let things slide becasue "Ah sure I didn't know that" is something I personally would seek to avoid.
You could approach a knowledgeable dealer in the Fitz or the Merrion to do this for you and I'd say it could be €150 well spent, on the other hand if you had a well versed poker playing mate unknown to your club members who was willing to try on a bowtie for the evening and be introduced as a TD that could do the trick either.

If I was running a fundraiser I'd approach a poker playing friend to do me a favour, alternatively I'd appraoch someone reputable (ish!!) like TrickyD do some moonlighting for me.

yeah suppose that could be a good idea
thing is we already have chips, tables and chairs and a venue for free,so if we could avoid paying out for a TD it would be great cos we would have no overheads..
anyone on boards who would good enough to do it??(14th July)

If you are getting everything else for free that may free up the cash to pay for a TD saves any falling out, any decision looks objective and it may help running a fund raiser at some point in the future thus making more cash in the long term

Besides nobody says "Chips on the way!" quite like TrickyD. When you hear this from TrickyD hes got a way of making it sound like youve done something good like double up!.

I may be interested in sponsoring a experienced tournament director for this event. I would need to know full details of the event. You can pm details if you wish.
