I need help and was wondering if anyone here could do just that. My brother in law has been acting very funny lately. Both physically and mentally. His eyes are slow to open when he is talking to you or slow to blink. I found tablets to day at home and i know they are his but i have no clue what they are. They are blue in colour and have a g on them with 10 on the other side.
Does anyone know what im dealing with or is there a web site that can help.

What shape is it ? (circular/tube shaped/etc for instance if it was blue and diamond shaped then it would most likely be viagra)

Have you asked your sister if he's on any medication (maybe he has some kind of eye infection) ?

it is round. And no he is on no medication. When i say g, its an old g with a snaking at the end of it.

    he is on no medication.

YOu mean no medication that you are aware of...perhaps he and your sister don't want you to know that he is on some prescribed medication !?!

Perhaps the G stands for Glaxo Wellcome...try looking at their site and see what tablets they have that are blue (but often different dosages of the same medication are different colours).

Just a thought, but I think the 10mg dosage of Valium is blue in colour (and might explain the slowed responses).

Im married to his sister and positive he is not taking prescribition drugs. He was a heroine addict a few years ago but got his life back together. We are just worried about him and want to make sure he doesnt go down that road again.

Perhaps one of the drug informartion lines can tell you if there are any tablets doing the rounds with a old style G logo on them.

Does it have groove going down the middle of the tablet ? If it does then it's more than likely prescription as a lot of them have that to make it easier to break it in half.

Would you know the number to call. Yes it does have the groove going down the middle but i have seen other drugs/illegal that have the same markings.
His history with heroine nearly killed his mother last time out i just dont want the same to happen again.

A quick google on Drug information lines links to this site run by the Health Service Executive

This page give a contact number for them.

I hope it turns out to be something innocent.

[EDIT] You could also talk to your local pharmacist and see if they recognise it.

Is valium addictive. Does it give you a HIGH like other drugs. I know from injuries when i was given a powerfull painkiller , i took too many and i was on another planet. Can valium do the same?

Valium is mainly an anti-anxiety medicine but it's also used to treat muscle spasms and also interestingly enough acute alcohol withdrawal (so perhaps he was given it as some drug treatment centre?).

It can be addictive but it depends on the dosage and the frequency it is taken (i.e. more than once a day).

Benzodiazepines (the family valium belongs to) are addictive and most are sedative hypnotics. It doesn't give a high like heroin/morphine/codeine (which are all opiates) but makes you feel relaxed, they are used to treat anxiety disorders, muscle spasms and insomnia.

If you're worried, take it to a pharmacist. They will be able to recognise whatever drug it is and will be able to tell you all about it. Boards really isn't the place to try and get information that could have such an impact on his life if you get the wrong information and confront him on it. Talk to a pharmacist first and see what it is before doing anything.

There is a book by the British Medical Association called the New Guide to Medicines i think. you can get it in easons. Its a book intended for the lay person.
It has a drug identification section, where you can search for a drug by colour, shape, type, size etc.... and it shows photos of the tablets for you to match them with.
Probably pharmacist is your best option though.

While nobody can be sure, without seeing it; I think the assumption that it is 10mg diazepam is probably correct.

It is not dangerous as in overdose but is highly addictive. I have posted more about this on the thread 'Vallium'

I reccomend you visit: http://www.benzo.org.uk/ for lots more information and access to the highly educational Ashton Report.

If it is diazepam, I hope the person taking it has not developed an addiction and if they have, they receive all the help and support possible.
