.. and where did you get it/them? Just curious.

Just got a back tire for Bandit 600
From: O Reilly Motorcycles, Dorset St (Dublin)
Type: Pirella Diablo Strada 160/60 ZR17 (not sure what all that means!)
    Cost: €220 (fitted)
But.. it was damaged while being put on so it was replaced with a Metzeler Roadtec Z6 for the same price.

Looked up the prices on the net.. Bout £95 STR on UK website and $130-$140 on US site for the same tires.

I got a quote from the Bike Tire Company for a set of Avon's at the start of the year and when they summer arrived I got another quote for the same tires but this time there was €100 in the difference. I think some shops put the price up when the biking season comes in.

ring around for a best price, if you roll into the yard looking for a tyre they'll fuggin ride you. Rolled into bike tire co. last year and parted with 200 notes for a metzler roadtec - didn't ring for a price first

Bike tyre co. are usually competitive on the phone. Cotters in Ballymount are supposed to be pretty decent.

Dr.Pepper that's a narrow tyre for a bandit is it not? Thought bandits use the 180 tyres not 160

No idea! That's the problem  I don't have much faith in bike shops though. Might try Cotters next time.

I had a look at Global Suzuki becuase I noticed that Steffano's new Bandit had a new 160/60ZR17 tyre fitted when he collected.
160/60 on current GSF650, so I'd be surprised if older model Bandit 600 had a 180/70 section tyre.

Re prices, I was in France last summer and picked up a pair of Dunlop D207s, front 120/70ZR17 and 180/55ZR17 for 189 euro. But between the tyres and other purchases, we excedded baggage allowance and got hit with excess charges. And had to pay through nose for fitting.
Asked Cotters recently and they quoted 275 for same tyres fitted. Which seems reasonable.

No, I was wrong, thought Bandits had a wide tyre like the Hornet.

    I have 160's myself, I remember getting a price on a 160 tyre for a Super4 and it was €160 fitted, Mcihelin I think.

the place on the net that sold car tyres (www.eiretyres.net) now sells Bike tyres.

    http://www.moto-tyres.ie/

Its then just a case of getting them fitted. Case of trying to find a place but usually if they can do a bike tyre then they will charge €10 per wheel fitting. (look at the car site for fitters and ring them to see if they do bikes)

that Pirelli Diablo Strada 160/60/17 retails on it for €159 incl. p&p. (then say €10 for fitting) = €170 approx.

Yeh, seems like these net-based suppliers are the way to go alright. I've heard most fitters are reluctant to fit tires bought somewhere else though.. Who could blame them when they stand to lose their 'rip-off Ireland' style mark-up.
But I'm sure one would find someone to fit them easily enough with a few phone calls!

The car based version of the site i mentioned actually has a list of tyre places that are "affiliated" i.e have signed up as a fitter for tyres bought via the website. I assume the same places will go bike tyres (if their machine will will do the wheel size).

Only other obstacle is probably having to bring down just the 2 wheels from the bike. Cant see a car place taking wheel off a bike!! Everyone should be at least be able to take the wheel off a bike though if they own one.

A bit of looking around always saves money!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Had a 3 inch screw go through the side wall of my rear tyre last week. Ended up having to replace the tyre, but cost me 130 euros fitted, a Michelin 140
but that was in a local tyre dealer not a bike shop, they had the tyre off and the new one on in under 10 minutes, was dead impressed

Had a set of Bridgestone Battlewings fitted to my GS by the BikeTyreCompany for 300 quid on the nose, which I thought was quite reasonable.. (previous tourances also lasted 8k miles, which was nice (only thing cheap about a GS is the tyres!)).

It's definitely worth your while checking with Charles Hurst in Belfast, to see what price they'll give you. When I was ringing around for a set of tourances:

    1) An undisclosed BMW dealership quoted me 380+ euro
    2) Bike Tyre Company was 345 euro (if memory serves correctly)
    3) Charles Hurst - 285 euro.
and Belfast is only around 100 miles from Dublin.. Just enough distance to get the tyres scrubbed in!

Oh and the same tyres from www.mynetmoto.com would have been a very cheap 193 euro (inc. VAT and delivery). Allow another 20 quid to have 'em fitted and we have a winner! Answer = shop around.

Just a thought here, but i'm able to fit new rubber on a car wheel with no great deal of bother(Cheers to the advance guys for all thoses call in's in work :D ). 2 pry bars and a nice blunt flat metal bar usually do the job.
Would i be a lunatic to try it on me bike??
