Some things that come to mind... Side partings with big volume hair is a must have.
Bright colours leg warmers, converse, really short skirts, shoulder padded jackets :p skinny jeans and leggings

I still have my hair crimper :o
I'd recommend a baggy oversized t-shirt with a belt, leggings, leg warmers or slouch sock with high top runners.

Honestly, the 70's and 80's were like night and day fashion wise.

As a teen of the 80's, the following were essential:

    - Two tribes - Miami Vice ('trendy') look or 'Cure-Head' (now called Goth) look, choose wisely.
    - PLO scarf
    - Tons of hair-gel/mousse and back-combed hair (that was just the guys!)
    - Pastel shirts
    - white slip on's, no socks
    - trousers/pants/jeans so tight at the leg that they'd cut off the blood circulation to your feet
    - Mullett (can be achieved with some weave)
    - Tons of cheap bangle-like accessories for the ladies (Madonna look)

Drinks of the era were either Furstenburg Lager for the guys (taken off the market in the late 80's because it actually rotted away the copper piping in pubs were it was sold draught), and Ritz for the ladies (wine-spritzer thing).

The Cure-Heads drank Lindon-Village in the Field Inn.

Hopefully there's enough in there to insipre you. Now I have to sign out as they only allow us OAPs an hour a day on the communal Internet PC at the retirement home.

I was 13 in 1989 and trying to rack my brains here for what I wore, some things that spring to mind are:

    Hair:

Perms or crimpled hair. Back-combed. Hairsprayed "bump" at the front. Side ponytails. We wore banana combs too which hurted like hell. Anyone remember them?!

Def go with legwarmers and get some gloves and cut the fingers off halfway to make them fingerless gloves. Get lacy ones if you can.

Madonna would be a good inspiration for your outfit. She was my idol then. Have a look at her early videos like Like a Virgin, Papa don't Preach, True BLue, Holiday, etc. You'll find plenty there.

Really really really tight jeans that were turned up twice to make them 3/4 length with pointy toed shoes.

Jumpers were often worn baggy with one side hanging off your shoulder.

Ski-pants were also a must have. Vile things but at the time we thought they were fcuking great. Probably can't get them now but basically they were like leggings but full length with elastic strip that went under your foot

    Enjoy your night :)
