    Hi,

I'm really interested in taking up some martial art that would give me greater confidence in being able to defend myself.....could anyone suggest one that is best for self defence?

It would be great if anyone had any info on classes available in Limerick....
I have seen one place doing something I think is called waza kai....is this any good?

Thanks....oh yes I'm dependant on glasses would this stop me?

    Hi,

Even though we don't focus particularly on SD you would be welcome to come train with us in UL. As it's summer time, there is only training in the college one night a week on Wednesdays, this focuses mainly on standup striking, Kickboxing, boxing, and crazy monkey defence. Training is a lot of fun and has the bonus of giving a person some skills that may be useful in self defence.

I've trained with some of the waza kai guys a few times but I've never train in their regular classes so I can't give an opinion. The website is http://www.wazakaicombatclub.com

yes Waza Kai is a good club you wont go too far wrong training up there.

Drop out to the old sports building in ul on wednesday at 7 o'clock if you wanna try some MMA.

As for your glasses; cant you wear contacts? If not maybe you should focus your efforts on grappling.

    Hey,
UL Kickboxing& MMA club is open to everybody who wishes to train. Stand up, clinch, and groundwork are covered. Unfortunatly as this is summer it means that we are only able to train one night a week butyou would be welcome to train.

There are a few of us here who have the same issues so it can be worked out.

Hi Ger, I was on your website and liked very much the idea of fitboxing. Will you be there tomorrow or you're prolonging Christmas break like lads from UL ;)?

Yeah we're a bit slow to get going after all the christmas goodness ;). . I would recomend that you try Ger's place also. He's a great trainer who I cant speak highly enough of, many of the UL guys (including me) also train out in his place. Good luck with it anyway, im sure you'll love it. Its way more fun than being stuck on a treadmill or stationary bike :)

    Hi,

There's a company called Rapid Self Defence. They're holding a course in the South Court Hotel in Limerick on December 12th. It's just 3 hours and afterwards you'll feel much more confident and have learned enough to defend yourself.

The reason they can teach it in such a short time frame is that they only teach a few easy to learn techniques that work and that can be applied universally, i.e. to all situations.

The course starts at 2pm. It's well worth it and if you feel you didn't benefit, just say the word and they'll refund you.

You can check it out at www.rapidselfdefence.com

Can you please explain one of these "easy to learn techniques that can be applied universally, i.e. to all situations "?

I am very sceptically of these types of event, but hopefully you can reassure me .
