Partner's childhood migraine resurfaced - any advice?

    Hello,

My partner used to get migraines as a child, they disappeared when he reached 12 or so. Recently they've come back and they hit with intervalls of between 2-3 weeks. Thankfully they only last about 5 hours, but he's totally incapacitated and needs to go to bed and try to sleep through them. He's got one of those ones with an aura beforehand, so he knows when one is coming on. He's tried Migraleve, but they do absolutely nothing.
Has anyone experienced something similar (ie a migraine that has come back)? Also saw the thread further down about meds, can anyone recommend anything that works for them?

    Many thanks for all advice!

I use Feverfew. Its a natural therapy and available in any health shop. It is especailly effective against occular migraine where the vision gets distorted before the migraine. If taken daily it will reduce the number of attacks dramatically e.g mine went from nearly a weekly occurence to a couple per year. If Feverfew is taken when an attack occurs it will eliminate the vision disturbance and reduce the headache pain considerably. I have recommended this product to people I know who suffer and they said its literally changed their lives....I would agree with that. Google it and see other peoples opiniions.

Also get the liquid form as it works much quicker than tablets

Will definitely try, anything to help him, I feel soo sorry for him when he gets them, totally whacks him out. Many thanks, will keep everyone posted on the progress!
Just had a quick look on google as well, and it says it depends on dosage etc. Could you recommend (or pm) the brand and dosage that works for you?

    get a scan

My first cousin has been getting severe headaches all her life (even puked in her leaving cert over the pain of one and had to leave the exam)

About 4 months ago she got a bad one and went to her college doctor asked if she has ever had a scan for it. Got the scan and they found a tumor at the base her brain. They cannot operate on it as it may kill her but the tumor is not life threatening but it has to be drained of fluid every now and then.

Her GP never sent her for a scan.

    Seriously get a scan

The brand is Jan de Vries. Its available from any health shop and a lot of chemists. Dosage is about 15 drops in water once or twice a day. Its really cheap as well. A bottle is about €10 and lasts a couple of months. Been taking it for years with no adverse effects and it works brilliantly. Hope it helps as migraines really do ruin your life

This is the product with dosage recommendations

Will do. I did a bit of research on it - got some scientific articles, because the man wouldn't just take any herb.... read that in some cases you have to take the stuff for a while before it starts working, but I'll keep you posted

Could be worth trying to figure out what triggers the attacks for him. Common triggers are chocolate/diet,tobacco smoke, excessive exercise or physical work, head colds or even the weather. With me its the head colds and heavy thundery weather so pretty hard to avoid them. Kinda strange it came back from his childhood.....people usually grow out of them.

    Best of luck.....

He doesn't really do that much different (other than watching too much footbal at the moment!). I think it might possibly related to irregular sleep patterns, but I'll have to observe this a bit more.
I read on the mirgraine association's webpage that there is a good chance of getting them back later in adulthood if you got them as a child...
