What type of connector should I get to join two satellite cables, basically am moving the sky box upstairs from one room to another but the cable ain't long enough. What connector should I use to join another cable to this cable and will I loose much signal quality in doing this ?? Or is it best to order a new single cable to run the whole distance ?

It's F connectors you need, either make up a cable yourself or by an extension off the shelf (with F connectors at both ends) in the likes of Peats, Maplin, Power City etc.. Even Atlantic etc. sell them.

To join the two leads, get a back to back F connector socket thingy... that's the technical term. ;)

It's better to have one length of cable, but I don't think it'll make much difference TBH as long as the connections are good. I had a satellite finder plugged into mine the other day (so two cables and the finder inline) and it didn't make any noticeable difference.

You have more to lose by using the wrong cable, far more in fact. You CANNOT use generic "brown" (for it usually is...) coaxial cable, you have to use actual satellite grade cable, preferably copper-on-copper sheidled; so CT100 or WF100.

agreed better to use CT100 or similar in a single run
