Holiday Tripod Recommendation?

Am going to Cyprus in August and don't want to bring my heavy Manfrotto because of (a) the heat and (b) the impact on my baggage allowance. (Had contemplated leaving wife behind thus avoiding, for once, having to bring everything but the kitchen sink along for the ride but was swiftly disabused of that notion).

Can anyone recommend a good, light tripod? Needs to support a DSLR and a heavy 70-210 lens. Longevity not an issue. If it lasts for two weeks it will do me fine. Will be using it for some low-light indoor shots so it IS necessary, even in the bright light of Cyprus.

Would a monopod be the answer?

    Regards,

    Carrigman

Ive seen some people that use a monopod + a couple of bungee cords to secure it to a nearby handy object. Not ideal by any means. I'm sure theres some cheapo tripod out there waiting for you in a camera shop. You'd probably even get one out there.

Aye, wouldn't buying on location mean that you wouldn't have to worry about the actual bringing it with you? the el cheapo ones from jessops and argos are actually not that light, I don't think.

But for the life of me I cant remember the brand name ;)

    Beanbags and tables FTW!

Seriously though, if your after a tripod, maybe buying one out there is the way!

    Search around www.lomography.com

There's a chest held monopod on it somewhere, and a stability pack for 30 quid with all types of pod-like...yokes...

I bought myself a cheapo tripod around about a year ago for the same kinda idea, except that Ive found it so handy it comes with me nearly everywhere!

Its a Slik Sprint Mini CG:

It was about €30 and while not a very sturdy piece of kit, its very light and compact and has gotten me loads of great shots.
