My friends HD had a lot of spyware and viruses etc and would not load up user accounts so I took it off him to clear it with mcafee.
When i cleared it and tried to start it up windows activation poped up yet it would not activcate. I tried installing my version of XP Pro and it went fine.

Unfortunately the hard drive would not load up windows on his computer....
It has choice between XP Pro or XP Home even though Home is deleted(or so i believe it to be)
When i choose xp pro it goes to the screen where you choose to start windows normally, safe mode, last known config etc.... yet when i choose either option it reboots..
Please help me this is not my hd and i cannot get my head around why its not working I will have to pay for it if it does not work.
Im on a deadline of tomorrow also.

Would it be that windows is installing to my hardware config and not to his machines?
    Any help appreciated, Thanks

Use a bootable CD to wipe the HDD altogether, all partitions, etc and reinstall his copy of Windows.

I'm guessing that HD means 3.5" hard drive and not the whole computer

yeah windows probably won't boot in your PC, but may work in the original one.
c:\windows\system32\wpa.dbl is the key file - backup it up first.

If you reinstall (not wipe) windows it will update that file, and if you authorise it etc to work on your PC - it may not boot on the original one. I don't know if putting the original wpa.dbl back again will allow it to work on the original PC
