massive photos

I want to blow up some photos really big for a big hallway, maybe about 2m or 3m squared. So do shops in Dublin do this? And any idea how much it would cost?
Also, would it be possible to get a good photo out of it if it's taken on a digital, cos mine isn't the best (but not the worst - can't remember the pixels)?
Or should I just bring them in negatives of photos taken on a non-digital camera?

I heard of some place on Baggot Street that does large prints. I enlarge mine to A3 pretty easy. Something that size you will have to be about 10 or more feet to see it properly.

I have seen ads for places in the UK that make your picture into actual wallpaper..

You're going to have to be quite a distance away from the pictures if they are to appear anyway decent as Borderfox said. They'll be horrid if you're close up. I hope the hall way is very, very big.
I remeber seeing a pic of Fajitas with some fancy ass printer in his college, he should have more of an idea of what's invloved.

I would think you will need a decent film camera for this, unless you have a mega pixel digital...

Just to let you know, Conn's Cameras rent out gear. If you were stuck, and knew what had to be taken, rent out a 1D Mk II if you could...shoot in RAW, you'll have proper huge files, for proper huge photos!

Quality shoots down as you print bigger, so you'll need to think about size. I honestly couldn't tell you how big 35mm film can be printed, either through very high res scans or actually printing the neg. Do let me know if you find out though! :)

There was an exhibition in Garter Lane in Waterford a few years back that consisted of pics of Antelope Canyon in the states by a local photographer/artist called Carmel Cleary. As far as I remember she either shot on 5x4 or 10x8 and actually had to (or chose to) make her own enlarger and developing apparatus. She got some fairly massive prints iirc. About 6 feet I'd say. Quite nice they were too.
If I could get me hands back on that 10x8 that I used to mess with in DIT it'd be great. I did almost all my work on 5x4 back then, portraits and documentary stuff even :) I never went beyond 16x12 though with the prints.

Depending on what exactly you want to hang... have you considered Rasterbation?

I've never actually got around to printing one out, but I have an amazing 4m x 3m ready to go, in my mind's eye! :D

Have a look at the "Gigapxl.org" site, for some really big pics.

What size negs did you use?

I think I remember that exhibition, albeit barely! (I always wanted to say albeit)

I always shot on 5x4 where I could and normally printed to 10x8 and only for one project to 16x12.
Not sure about that exhibition, I think it may have been shot on 10x8 neg or slide. I don't know the artist personally, only to see.

Roen, I'm looking for 5x4 developing tanks, do you have any left by chance?

There's a printing programme called QImage. It lets you do posters up to any size using A4's or bigger. I messed around with it a few times. It's great craic.
The programme also lets you print to any size without you having to worry about DPI and that stuff. There is a demo available here.

Thanks for the replies. Will try the suggested places in Dublin.

I used to use the colleges stuff so I'm afraid I never had my own, I also used to use just normal dev trays but that was a pain in the ass as you could only dev two at a time.
    Sorry man.
