    Hi all,
Am wondering if anyone has info/experience on where to get laser cut parts made from rc plans.....ie you send them a pdf or paper plan and they laser cut a kit form ply/balsa ?

I'd like to build something like an A-10 but the sheer amount of parts to be made compared to the free time i have means i need someone to do the repetitive bit :)

    Any suggestions welcome :)
    Cheers.

Why do it from plans when there are really nice kits?
The build itself will be time consuming and challenging enough for anybody.

Here are some pics of mine - most bugs fixed and soon for maiden flight. :D

Wow thats nice.....I'd really like to see that fly.
    What kit is it?

Fwiw im punching above my weight atm.....still have to finish my Fly-boy.
6years now in the making due to work :)

I started off with a hi-boy which i never got to fly....a friend of mine flew it a couple of times in wicklow.... then my younger brother smashed it in a fit of anger with me.

Lol..bought the fly-boy to replace it as i wanted something bigger anyway, just for show, it needs about 3 hours or so more work and i need a new radio and servo set......

Was intending to put the A10 together as something to do once i have this one up and running.... i now have oodles of free time at work and lots of tools :)

It's an Aeronaut kit of the A-10 Thunderbolt II.
This kit version is with the fibreglass fuselage and built up wood wings, nasceles and tail.
If you want to do it as a jet it will be heavier, with powerful engines and the epoxy moulded fuselage is essential to keep it from flexing.
Three went into the shop sale where I work and I snapped up the first one for me :-) !

It IS "a builders" kit, a several weeks/months project (assuming working a couple of evenings per week), not to be done in a wet week. :D

The way I've done mine is more costly with twin brushless motors, twin jet units and all. Many people do it at far lower cost with small props in front of each nascelle and twin cheap speed 400 motors costing a tenner each.
In this way the engine cost might be 1/20th of the jet version. I saw this version fly too, and it goes ok, quiet, but with enough power.

My ducted fan one is a more heavy flight weight that shrieks even while only at 1/4 throttle!

Seeing it fly? The Dublin Kestrel Model Flying Club has had their runway extended last week, and will have it finished next week. I have been waiting for that to do the maiden flight, since not many clubs near where I live have the right setup for a model that is heavy, fast and designed to fly low. It will be out there 3-4 weeks from now.

    Hmm....
I dont mind it being a builders kit....I like building kits in the main...just right now i want something i can switch on and go to make use of the occasional fine weather and the renewed interest in the hobby before it dies down again :)

I think if you're going to do a jet kit and can afford it, ducted fan is the only way to go. About 10 years ago i recall the cost of ducted fans being astronomic...twas something like 100 irish punts for a single fan unit, let alone a motor. I remember RCM+E did a great article on building our own ducted fan set using marine ply and epoxy wrapped around a coffee jar !

They scratch build an a10 for it....it flew ok iirc....less efficient then the commercially available units..but something like 1/10 the cost :)

I'd like to do something like an f15 or f16 ducted fan kit....or foam scratchbuild.
Great planes used to do a glowF kit of an f15 that was practically a trainer with a .40 by all accounts..then if you upped the engine it became a passable aerobatics toy :)

The only problem i ahve with kits like this is i'd get far too sidetracked with details...i'd be buying starwars kits and breaaking them up to put fibre optics in the cockpit, and (re)inventing a retract system for it:)

I'd actually be genuinely surprised if i ever actually got it built, covered and flying :)

If you could pm me when you're thinking of bringing it out ill see if i can arrange to come see :)

I will mention it here. Just waiting for the runway to be prepared.

I fly my profile ducted fan Alphajet regularly on the DUblin slopes.
My Glockner BAe Hawk had a terminal flight last summer and is no longer with me.
But its replacement the DH100 Vampire is ready and next in the queue has just got it's receiver from an "ex-model".
