    Hey

At the moment I have a PC with a 2.93Ghz Celeron Processor and 256MB RAM

I'm gettin a Macbook in August, with a 1.83Ghz Core Duo processor and 1GB RAM

How would this compare to my PC I have now????

Jus wonderin, what usually determines the speed, is it your CPU or the amount of RAM ye have?

    Thanks

like everything, it depends (the type of ram, the type of processor, etc). What do you use your computer for anyway? RAM is usefull for programs and applications that require a lot of data to be available for access quickly (photoshop or oracle being an example) the CPU is usefull for handling execution of processes and programs.

But for your case, a core duo at 1.83Ghz would trounce a 2.93 celeron, purely because its dual core. Thats a pretty sweet laptop for most applications you'll want to use, and the 1Gb RAM is needed for most of the applications people with MACs want to use (i.e. CAD)

The laptop would be far superior at a guess.

Plus the fact that the Macbooks are duo-core which effectively means that they have 2 processors.

More RAM in a Mac is also much more important than a PC, because the OS needs at least 256 to run. The MacBook will be a serious improvement on the PC.
