A mate of mine had a notice coming up down on the right hand side of his destop saying his system has a virus.

I didnt know what it was so installed Avg free for him and did a scan and a good number of trojans appeared and a couple of viruses.I then went to virus vault and tried to heal them but the heal button was blanked out. Anyone know whats the situation with this?

    Thanks...

Not all damage done by virus' are healable, espcially with AVG free. It may also be a system file that is locked as it is in used.

Your best option is to manually delete the infected file. Of course this may render your OS unstable, unusuable or unbootable and can lead to loss of data :)

Was the inital popup for the virus caused by spyware possibly?

Yeah your right SouperComputer, the pop up down on right handside says something like *System infected with virus or malware, click on link to get spyware removal software* Just appears then fades away and there is a sort of flashing icon on taskbar near clock...

Would I be better to run AVG in safemode.

Safe mode and scan would be a good idea alright.

That sounds like a spyware application which is asking you to buy more malware! Run through a few spyware scans with Spybot and Ad Aware. See if that helps, if not google any files you szuspect in the task manager and you can manually remove them

No harm in checking the Startup tab in msconfig.exe to see if theres anything suspicious.
