I am running two anti virus softwares on my computer. AVG Free and Norton 2005. Is there any problem doing this? I was just wondering because I heard somewhere that if you have two running together that they won't work properly. Also, I am looking to get a different Anti Virus package, what other free ones are people using, and are they any good?

Use one or the other, don't run both at once.

I use AVG antivirus, Avast! is pretty good as well, both free.

SOme time virus software will see the other virus software as a virus, then try to remove it and **** it up. I think it happens if AVG finds norton..... Then again, norton is a true virus. It slows your system more then any virus could :)

Thanks for the replys. I am going to remove Norton.
Good luck with that, Norton can be a bitch most of the time to uninstall. Even when you 'uninstall' it loads of it's components are still running in the background.

Norton anti-virus is possibly the least consumer-friendly ant-virus package. I use avast and it is excellent. Real-time protection and it talks to you.
never had a bother in the two years I've been using it.

Remove Norton and enjoy how quicker your computer will seem afterwards.
As said more than likely norton won't be able to uninstall. For that reason there are remover utilities around to remove all these kind of norton products.
Even if norton was the quickest anti virus i wouldn't use it. It does no good what so ever. I have not yet seen norton remove a virus it found, honestly. I've being working on computers for years. Everytime it finds a virus it says failed to delete because access denied to file.
Norton costs quite a bit of money too. As far as im concerned there is not one advantage with using norton antivirus in comparison to the free ones.

Free ones like AVG and avast are a much better option.

Yes, Norton AntiVirus eats up the most memory. AV's that are the easiest on your system are:

    1/AVG
    2/AntiVir Personal
    3/Avast! Home Edition
    4/NOD 32

    Good luck!:D

To be double sure that you have no viruses, you could do a Trend Micro online PC call once a week. It can take about an hour to do though, so best to do on a a day you don't need you computer much.

Theres a list of antivirus programs that people use listed in the sticky in the Security forum. I just use Anti-Vir free edition.
