My Sister has been working part time for 3 yrs and is permanent in her job no union in job, She will be going full time in 3 wks time. It has been hinted at her that her hourly rate might change from 13E an hour to 11E an hour yet she will have more reponsibility.I think her boss is trying to pull a fast one.He mentioned that people on part time get more per hour than full time workers so since she will be full time she could end up getting less per hour. I have told her she should be looking for more per hour due to more responsibilty. So can he drop her rate per hour thanks

It is illegal to pay someone a different rates solely because someone is part time or full time. They must prove that the part time role is an easier job with less responsibility I think.

A part time worker doing the same job cannot be treated less favourably but this is the opposite. I don't think the law provides protection in the other direction...

It sounds like OP's friend will be in a different role with a different contract. So they could very well do what they like.

Of course OP's friend doesn't have to take a contract off them...

As Stark says, this will probably be a change in contract (i.e. she'll have to sign a new contract to go full time). They can include a change of pay rates in the new contract, but of course she doesn't have to sign it.

Sounds like he's trying to pull a fast one. Part-time workers most certainly do not get paid more per hour than full time workers doing the same job. That doesn't mean that what he's doing is illegal though.

Agreed. Probably not illegal, just a chancer. Ask for €13 if you think you'll get it
