Hi if anyone could shed some light on this weird chessboard like artifact that appears in all my games i would be greatfull for the help.
My pc is in good condition and is not overheating as the temp is about 22 degrees celcius when idle and i am certain heat isnt the issue.
I have updated my foreware drivers to the latest current beta release and nothing has changed.
The problm varies in intensity and is a real annoyance and has been present for a while now.
I dont know if the card(6600gt) is to blame or some driver issue as i have reset the driver settings under nv control panel.
    Am i missing something?

Bad ram or a faulty cpu. Thats textures missing from the loadup.

is the graphics card the culprit by any chance?
The ram could be faulty but its a matched pair.

Is this what you are talking about.

No, I am talking about the weird chessboard like graphics artifact on the wall.
Funny how the crosshair looks a bit messed-up in that jpeg file as i have never encountered the crosshair glitch in any game.

That's probably down to the JPEG compression.

    That does make sense.

I had the same problem with HL2 - my gfx card died shortly afterwards.

ah well if mine dies i think it will be a good excuse to get 7600gt:D
Was your card a gainward by any chance?

em does it happen on the same wall and same texture? If so its the compression, and if it was your graphics card it would be happening all over the place as well, in graphic intensive parts of the level. I wouldn't worry about it if its only on the one texture. But if its all over the place, its probably just a bad copy of the texture files, which could be RAM or a CPU problem, in all likelyhood unless you are getting purple and black textures all over the place a green flickering artifacts your card is fine

    Thanks for the info;)
Yes i dont think it is a major issue with the hardware considering the artifacting is only limited to certain areas and the temp of the card is 47 degrees when idle
but i presume higher when the clockspeed is ramped up in games.
