Hey, does anyone know what's the deal with NUIG access programs for disadvantaged students? I know there's a program for mature students, but is there anything available for leaving cert students who come from a background that makes it really hard to get a load of points through CAO?

I'm asking for my girlfriend, she's really clever but her home situation is really difficult (she had to miss a lot of school to look after her young brothers and even coming up to her exams she had hardly any opportunity to study) She's worried about not getting enough points to do the couse she wants and I heard that there are some programs are outside the CAO system that help people get their foot in the door of third level.

you can get in contact with Rita Donaghue in the access office in Nuns Island in Galway. She can fill you in and send out all the info for you..

this site should fill you in and has all the info to get in contact with them

if she doesn get that she can go in as a mature student at 21. i know its a hard option, i have been there myself with taking care of family and tryin to study for the L.C. too a while ago

thank you very much. That is exactly what i was looking for.

I tried searching the College website but i couldn't find it.
The irony being that i found it hard to access the access website.
