Slight change in the International fights, Greg Loughran will be taking on Yoann Coulon, not Emmanuel Geay.

It's great to see so many Irish fighters and hopefully I can get some more French fighters over for future shows to give you guys more competition.

Not sure if I'll make it over for this show, but I'll certainly try.

There hasn't been much talking about ROT5, what's that about? Where are the fight previews like last time? Mark must be doing some actual work instead!:)

Now that it's getting close I'm getting bummed that I'm not fighting! Stupid real work stuff getting in the way and all that.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the irish guys do against the talent from abroad.

John, are all the fights pro? it doesn't say on the fight card you posted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 314 ✭✭Mola.mola

the first fight is semi-pro. the others i presume are pro

due to injuries sustained in training 3 fights have been lost :( here's the latest fight card. also you can see that Alan Seery is now taking on Willy Hamill, which should be interesting to 'Striking' fans as neither like to grapple.

Thats unfortunate I was looking forward to Kevin McAlonan vs. Neil Seery, Alan Seery vs. Hamill should be a slugfest though!

LOL, if I go to 100 on one, I'd have to do all four, and that €400 is my drink budget for next week!

Ten is as far as I can go - as I tell the ladies :D

Well I don't gamble but I suspect the MY - OD fight is going to be very very very close. Hehehe, I reckon either of them can win by KO in the first round by big punches, either can take it to the ground and RNC the other and if it gets to the decision it will be very very very close. I still reckon OD will win. I think MY is on bit of a downward streak (correct me if i'm wrong) and OD probably wants to avenge a fianna previous loss, so i'll tip drummo to win, but expect anything to happen.

How homoerotic. I'd put my money on Pearse as the most ripped corner man.:)

He who doubts The Shane is due for a wedgie! Personally I'm most excited about seeing The Batman enter the ring. That and seeing a very stressed out Kav run around all day. Anyone want to place a bet that he'll punch me before the night's out?

I'm sure John will really miss my repeat "pretend disasters" for the day.

Ah, winding up kavanagh, one of the simple joys of this life.

Anyone know the final fight card for tonight ?

The last one I saw had Owen Drummond on it & I saw he's out due to injury.

Also heard a rumour the Willy Hammil vs Alan Seery fight is off .... don't know if it's true

Good luck to all the fighters, hope it's a good night.

ROT 5 - Decent show, not as good as the last one but interesting in its own way. Didn't get going til after 7.30 i think and was over by 21.10. At full attendance it was fairly full.

Ciaran Maher (SBG) v John Murphy (PBS) LW
First fight of the night and semi pro rules. Ciaran Maher came in with Pearse and Dave Roache I think and seemed quite pumped. He seemed eager to show off his 5% body fat physique. The fight was very lively with the shaved head Ciaran trading leg kicks with the PBS fighter. Can't remember who got the take down but Murphy ended up in Maher's guard with an arm exposed which Ciaran twisty armlocked (with some struggle). A nice buddist bow to finish and plenty of handshakes. Maher looked very pleased to have won.
Maher by ude garami in Round 1 (~1.15)

Willy Hamill (SBG) v Alan Seery (Shika) LW

Reliable willy drafted in at short notice to replace an injured fighter fought well and was more than willing to trade punches with the Shika fighter. A couple of nice leg kicks and some big right hands and straight lefts rocked Seery a few times who dove at Hamill's legs to dodge the onslaught. Willy wasn't interested in an exchange on the ground, having los his side control but manging to roll back on top. Willy knocked his opponent onto the canvas a final time about half way tru first round

    Hamill by TKO round 1.

Jason Bradley (SBG N) v Alan Hannon (UL) LW
Again like the previous matches, the majority of this bout was in the striking range with a tiny bit of clinch. jason had a strong first minute, having the better of the punching exchanges but Hannon the cannon launched into a 8-12 hit unanswered spree which rocked the SBG N man, brough him to his knees and into a position in which he wasn't defending himself properly so referee Andy Ryan had to step in.

    Hannon Round 1 TKO

Richie Moore (SBG N) v Martin O’Brien (NG) LHW
This was an interesting bout. On paper, the self proclaimed clinch master, Moore vs the kickboxing/boxing O'Brien looked like a typical Grappler v Striker match up. And to be honest, it looked like Moores gameplan worked best though inadvertently at times. Moore was quick to close the range and tangle up O'brien and take him to the ground. However, moore was not able to captilaise on position. The first round continued this way, Moore taking take down, getting position, loosing position, gaining position and then getting stood up. First round Moore.
Second round started with a touch of gloves the wiley Obrien ducked under and nearly knock richie out with a looping punch that just blew by his head. obrien was also sharp enough to counter the hip throws moore was attempting to send the big ballymun man onto his back. However, obrien proved worse at getting the finish then moore and while able to maintain position all he did was drop a few week hands ot the body and take more than a few knees himself. Referee stood them up twice (more on this later). With little or no strike exchange and few sub attempts the take downs gave Obrein the round.
It's interesting to note that richie had a few opportunties to finish the crowd noticed that seemed to pass him by. he also had a few sub attempts such as a kimura that obrien wrigggled out of.
round 3 went a similar way of round 2 but richie was lucky enough in the last minute to get a solid koshi guruma(neck lock hip throw) variation land in mount and for the first time in the 3 round throws some nice punches on his oppoent.
The decision was split 2-1 in favour of moore
I agree with the decision, richie did more on his feet, had equal take downs but made more finishing attempts. Obrien seemed to be disappoionted with Andy Ryans refereeing and MAY have wondered at the appropriatness of a SBG N coach refereeing a SBG N guy in the ring. But at the end of the day, richie won, it was close but the decision was correct in my opinion.

Shane Courtney (SBG) v Aidan Marrow (PCC) WW

With the drummo fight cancelled i was expecting this bout to be the main event. The shane minus the hair looked in tip top condition at 76.8 kg and the highly decorated aidan marrow looked equally impressive. courtney closed the distance and chased the clinch but marrow scored the first take down with a foot sweep/block landing in the shanes guard. the shane tried a triangle but the northener was having none of it. Marrow on his back looked firm and Courtney seemed to abandon the sub attemps and go for gNp throwing punches into Marrows guard. Marrow however was wrapping the sBG competitor up and looked like taking an arm or triangle. I think their 3rd exchange of courtney being in marrows guard resulted in an arm bar. Bit disappointing i was expecting a war.
    MArrow by submission 1st round

Tom MaGuire (Killarney JJ) v John Walsh (PBS) LW
This fight was pretty cool. I was not faimilar with either fighter before hand. The two guys exchanged a lot of position on the ground showing good and strange jitz. Tom won by something, arm bar i think in the first round.

Greg Loughran (PCC/Ireland) v Yoann Coulon (France) LW

THe frenchman, with a "black belt in judo and boxing" seemed lively on his feet and caught the highly rated loughran a couple of times. The boxer moved around on his toes and didn't allow any clinch however greg got through and from a thai clinch got a solid knee to the head which rocked the pro-rules virgin resulting in him taking a few nice shots to the head which resulted in him pulling guard in the corner which loughran quickly and effiecently dove into and with a lighting bolt of punches got the stoppage (which may have been a bit slow judging by the blood on the frechmans face). A cut above the left eye and centre of forehead showed the power in gregs GnP.

So that's my view. I think Shanet may have a better one with some photos on his site coming up soon but there's something for ppl that couldn't make it work off. All of the fights bar one when ended in the first round but it was good to see a new crop of lads bled in. the show went very smoothly once it got going (ignoring the mic problems). Of course the above are my opinions based on hazey memories and if i come across as bit of a dick talking about the lads I apologise, I love them all and was well impressed. I think Greg loughran is Pound for pound the irish BJ Penn although some may dispute that. There was a little bit of contravesy but most importantly, the fighters all went home safe and sound, MMA was pushed another little bit up the irish publicity ladder, a couple of lads earned important experience, a few bob was made and a few pints drank with good entertainment and company.

I think you got it right with all the fights. I agree with you about Greg Loughran, he is very good and I had him slightly ahead when he fought Arni last time but I'm no judge!

Congrats to Martin O'Brien from NG on his first pro fight, he gave a great account of himself. It was very close but I agree that the throw to mount to strikes in the last thirty seconds lost it for him.

It was a bit annoying waiting for the doors to open and then to start but once it did I really enjoyed the show. Whens the next one? I look forward to seeing some of the new guys fight again.

:) Well done to Alan, sweet performance!

All the fights I saw (the second half of the card) were quite good. Greg was in great form, nice win for him. Aidan Marron looked sharp on the ground, nice armbar win for him.

Tom Maguire from Kerry had a good win too. John got him down fast and I thought Tom would be in trouble but he stayed calm, got a nice reversal and got the armbar.
