Is Firefox any better? Safari's been acting a bit temperamental these days and am wondering what you guys think.

I think you found a bug with the location....

To be honest I never use Safari. Firefox all the way. Any browser without tabs and mouse gestures (at a minimum) is a no go for me.

from my experience, safari (with all its faults) is still the best browser for the mac. but its usually good to have firefox and even *eeeek* IE on standby for any difficult sites.

Its a hard call i think safari is slightly better, it handles PDFs very well, seems a bit faster and is very easy to use. What i hate most about it is if you click and hold down the button on a link it doesnt do the same as ctrl - click (in firefox it does). Firefox handles RSS feeds way better and if i download a file thats deemed not safe then it wont auto open (which is good no novice users) but i want to be able to change that option, i can in firefox. Its anoying when using .nbz files on usenet. If safari fixed these small things then it would be the best browser

I have noticed that Safari is less tolerant on some sites that firefox will display correctly. So for that reason, I keep firefox handy, but it would be nice if FF used the native OS X graphics widgets when displaying forms, buttons etc.

True enn.ie doesnt display properly when you are reading an article, its very anoying it cuts off the first line of the article

I'm always switching between Camino & DeerPark (Firefox).
Camino is lighter, DeerPark has customisability

I guess it depends what kinda surfing you do. I use safari for java stuff like poker or chatrooms. Thats all.

For "power surfing" safari is crap compared to the competition.
apple T to make a new tab? wtf is that all about?

Firefox is great but Opera has the edge on Firefox in my opinion.

Like I said before, Opera is just the same as Firefox only with more and better features. Middle click for a new tab, middle click to kill a tab. Superb mouse gestures. Built in bit torrent. Lots of nice skins. Loads up quickly. Very stable.

Did I mention Opera has built in Bit Torrent?

Baiscally they're a way to use the mouse to automate more complex actions:

I only use Firefox, I tried Safari before and hated it, I hate everything about MAC's. I still haven't tried Opera, supposidly it is better then Firefox, but tbh if it ain't broke don't fix it

    what are mouse gestures??

In Opera, for example, if I want to go to the previous page I dont have to move the pointer to the back button, I can just hold my right click, then press left click. Very handy.

I've used Firefox on several occasions and each time it froze or quit unexpectedly. If I enable the debug menu in Safari I can get nearly everything to work including Internet Banking on Ulsterbank which wouldn't work before.

Safari can be told not to open downloaded files by default - at least my version can !

The only site I have problems with is eircom.net which totally screws up. Otherwise I'm happy with Safari.

And what's wrong with option+t for a new tab ? It's simple enough to do, or you can right (ctrl) click on the tabs bar.

And marts, if you hate macs that much why contribute to a mac forum ?

i think i'll give opera a try. safari would be great if apple updated it more than once a year but since they no longer have IE to compete with they don't care.

    For me

    #1 Camino
    #2 Firefox
    #3 Opera
    #4 Safari

and after that, well I just wouldn't bother!! Give Camino a go. Almost bug-free tabbed browsing without the head-wrecking sillyness of some other browsers. Nice OS X look and feel too.
