Fixing a Broken iPod

Given its reputation, Im sure this has been asked somewhere before, but here goes... My iPod is broken, wont swich on or charge and when it did it used to freeze for ages. The charger is fine, its definitely the iPod itself. Its almost 2years old so its not young, but its crap having to leave the house with all my pictures and music in my pocket! We had some good times....

Anyways this is complicated by the fact that I never bothered holding onto the warranty:rolleyes: and my brother got it for me in New York. However I do have the box it came in and the software:confused: Is there anything that I can do or would it be more worth it to get a new one? I was seriously contemplating just going at it with a screwdriver but managed to stop myself:D
