Problems with Sky + box and Glogal "plus combiner"

    It would appear that my Sky + box is dead (well maybe my hard-disk anyhow) and sky plus combiner.

    Puzzled ??? Presuming that Sky+ box is blown - all I get is black screen and box will not come out of standby mode. My free to air box is working fine and so is the rest of the equipment in my sitting room e.g. tv, amp, woofer, remote pyramid etc.

    My sky plus combiner is also blown - I know this because led is unlit and when I hooked free to air box straight into wallplate (connected to attic tvlink splitter) I regain control of free toair box around the house.

    I am presuming the worst and that I need to buy another Sky+ box and combiner - ouch!!! or are they fixable???

    Any thoughts as to why and what to do appreciated. Is there any way of codding Sky into subbing Sky + box at new customer rate??

    Maybe it's a fault with the power supply of the Sky+ box, which, along with being stuck in standby, also stopped feeding 9v to the RF2 output.

    Eventually got thru to Sky tec support who ran thru a few procedures like pressing tv guide etc (doh! done that!)

    Passed onto 2nd tier support who asked whether I had a modified box. Well ...yes was the answer.

    This was given as being the reason for Sky+ box being stuck in standby mode.

    Sky advised that they were in the middle of a software upgrade. Said that they check their software on standard boxes prior to doing so but the fact that my box was modified meant that it likely had clashed.

    Also said that this was the reason for sky plus combiner to stop working!!

    Asked me to do manual update i.e. power off, hold backup button and repower and wait 10 minutes, If this failed I would have to wait and try this again this evening......didn't work so am waiting till after work to try again.

    I have not been online since Friday but Sky had told me that the forced software update might have to be done a second time. Did so Friday Evening and thankfully went well and regained access.
