Stem-Cell Research

    Hi all! :D

There has been recent debates over letting embryotic research to be carried out in Ireland. I think though that many people are ignorant to what stem cell research is all about. I remember some pro-life campaigner saying they take a formed zygote like a tiny baby with its legs and arms and killing it. But that's not true. Isn't it like the blastocyst just after the sperm and egg have fertilised and they segregate different tissues in hope to growing nerves cells in hope to repair damaged tissue. Also, many people don't realise that nature automatically produces a excess sex cells in hope that some will survive to fertilise (survival of the fittest). Why not use the left overs which will die anyway for something useful. And also, many people don't want to have babies so with contraception, the ova and sperm won't be fused anyway.

Anyway, I only have very limited and basic knowlegde over stem cell research from studying Biology in school so anyone who can correct me and provide better information on the topic, feel free to post. But I am sorta aware of the moral implications on the subject and can understand people's point of view but it is rather biased in that those who support stem cell research are often ignored. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Daniel ;)
